Dash speakers too loud/bright after adding amp? Possible stupid solution.

Hey all. Never made an audio build thread of my own, but figured this would be worth sharing. I have 2018 Platinum with the JBL system. Like many here I recently upgraded by pulling the factory amp and sub, adding a DSR1 and JBL 4505 amp. Added a JBL WS1200 12" sub in a SoundBox sub enclosure. Factory door/dash speakers are powered thru the 4505 amp. Pretty basic stuff.

After some tweaking with the amp and the DSR1, I finally got the system to sound more clear - I had some switches wrong on the amp (LOvsHI1/HI2 inputs, EXT SUB switch), and used the DSR1 to adjust crossovers instead of on the amp.

But one thing I couldn't get past was how harsh and bright the corner dash speakers sounded. If I turned down the gain on the front channel I pretty much lost any midrange the door speakers were putting out. I popped the grill covers off the corner dash speakers (btw FU Toyota and your shitty 2 piece plastic clips) and tried disconnecting them, but it seems those and the tweeter on the door are wired together. I didn't want to cut anything up so I came up with a possible solution.

I flipped the dash speakers over and shoved them back in the hole where they came from.

This allowed me to turn the gain back to normal on the front channel to get some low-end and mid from the 6x9 door speakers, and I still get some mid-highs from the dash speakers, just not so harsh and in your face.

Not sure if anyone else has tried this or has a more elegant solution, but figured i'd throw out the idea. Let me know your thoughts good or bad.

I love reading something like this!
Next step would be to just gut them and do a set of front components. But I really like "shove them back in the hole they came from"! Made my week! Thanks

There is also another thread on here where a member added in a potentiometer only line with the dash speaker wires. It was a pretty big one and cost around $30 or so when I looked it up. For that cost, you’re better off getting another amp. Just another option

Cut out a air filter (paper or foam type)a cover the speaker. It will muffle it down a bit. Add more layers until your satisfied. I have aftermarket and I run the dash on separate channels than the 6x9 so I don't have that issue.

Quilt stuffing works too or tape up the grill holes. Add more tape until your satisfied with the output.
