    Good Afternoon!

I’ve had some recent issues that brought my truck to its knees. I need a new a CV axle and possibly a new Steering knuckle..

.. A few days ago I was backing into a parking spot when suddenly my whole truck dropped 2 feet on to the asphalt. I got out, saw the tire folded in the fender, and assumed the ball joint broke. But nope, the bolts holding together the Ball joint mounting bracket and the steering knuckle sheered off completely. Come to find, There was only one bolt in there?! I had just bought the truck and was planning on getting a inspection, but didn’t have enough time yet.

So the threads on the steering knuckle are little to non-existent on one hole. While another has a bolt stuck in the threads. Should I replace the whole thing? What part do you recommend, for both the steering knuckle and the CV axle? (The CV axle pulled out completely from the inner boot)

Thanks in Advance for any help!

Ouch! I knew we had a ball joint recall. Didn’t know the bolts could completely back out. Sounds like the use of lock-tite will be necessary.

So the bolt holes on the knuckle are fubar? Any possibility of running a tap in them to save the knuckle?

For axles we usually recommend CVJ reman axles.

    Welcome to the forum...

The sheared bolt will probably be pretty easy to remove with a small center punch and a hammer. Tap from the outside of the broken end in a counter clockwise rotation. Check for online vids...
I would drill larger holes and put in fresh threads with a tap myself. Install everything with red loktite. But, I do have the drill press and such.

So the bolts just fell out or they broke off? Could you even just drill out the holes and use a nut and bolt? I think maybe 2 of the holes you could but the other two would need to be tapped and rethreaded.
