Am I crazy to consider trading my 08 Double Cab 4x4 with 148k for a seemingly “fully stock but leveled” 08 Crewmax with 173k miles?

Downside other than it being white…would be Ive pretty much setup my truck the way I want it. Running boards, Alpine Head Unit and sub, remote start, leather wrapped steering wheel, side exhaust, DECKED system, and some other odds and ends. In addition, I’ve owned this since 104k miles, so I’ve been doing the recommended maintenance since owned. I replaced spark plugs, trans drain and fill, diff fluid changes, driveline greasing, regular oil changes, new brake rotors and pads, replaced the radiator, coolant flush, power steering flush, serpentine tensioner and belt replacement, and replaced all 4 corners with OEM shock takeoffs recently so the truck feels “fresh”.

I’d basically have to start over with the new truck which amounts to some significant cost. They want $17,500 for it, but I saw an ad they posted and took down for $14,500 so I’m not sure what’s up there.

Only thing I would be gaining is a bigger back seat which would be great for current 6 month old and any future kiddos. Plan to step up to a Super Duty and keep the Tundra anyways though as I need more towing capacity.

Setup the way my truck is now considering all the maintenance and some of the extras that would stay (most would come with), I think mine is worth more than $17.5….but I doubt they’d give me the truck AND pay me. I already said I’d want to swap my wheels and tires.

Am I crazy for even considering this?

When I was truck shopping, we stopped at a dealership to look at some new DCs. The salesman heard that we had kids in car seats and said we'd be crazy not to get a CM instead. This ended up being good advice!

Do I think you'd be crazy to go to a CM? No. Do I think you'd be crazy to go to that CM? Yes.

Look at it. Zero mods/improvements means little to no passion for it. The interior looks stained under the passenger seat, the driver seat has a cover that is probably hiding damage, the headlights are looking yellow and crusty, obvious paint or body damage on the driver side, a plate drilled into the bumper without a plate mount... Nope. Would not do it. Especially not for a straight trade. You could get more than what they are offering if you were to private sell or trade without your mods.

Sounds like you really like your truck as is. The thought of sinking that much time and money into one with higher miles just for a bigger back seat doesn't add up to me, at least you are not convincing me that's what you want. And if you plan to get a Super Duty to boot, get a crew cab in it and keep the Tundra you seem to like.

    Don't give up the BLUE!!!!

The difference between your truck and that white truck is night and day. I think you'd regret trading your truck for that one. Maybe if you found a CM in comparable condition to yours it might be worth it, but not for that one.

    Keep what you have.
That DC rear seat is plenty big for 1 or 2 toddlers.
    Don't forget, you're giving up a 6' bed.

You've worked too hard to make your current truck your own and to fit your needs.
Don't start over with an inferior crewmax.

Wouldn’t do it OP! Your truck as stated above looks well loved and the white truck just looks like it’s never been washed lol

I vote to keep yours. It's well maintained and you don't see many in your color either. Food for thought. I have an 11, 16, and 18 year old, and they all fit just fine in a DC.

I vote to keep your truck too. I have a dc in blaaack. Fit 3 baby seats in that thing no problem. And the boys a between 7-9 years old now. Still plenty of room for them in the dc. Bigger backseat not worth the smaller bed.

@AzureNightmare covered it......your truck is a known commodity. I wouldn't trust any seller who posted pictures like that for a sale. The fact that they didn't clean it up before posting the ad makes me wonder what else they have neglected and/or not disclosing. There will be other trucks to be had........hard pass for me (they dropped the price $3k because its a shitbox and they couldn't sell it)

Hit the nail on the head, all things I saw and put on my larger “bad” checklist. I like my truck too much and known maintenance on it is worth a lot to me. Will definitely be keeping mine. When I get a Super Duty the plan is to get a crew cab. Current truck is my main “tow pig” and the Durango is our “family ride” but could tow the current camper, just not future planned camper.

Thanks all for confirming my thoughts….no way!

Keep your lower mileage :muscleflexing: Blue DC! I haul 3 teenagers to Showdown 10-15 times a year in mine with no complaining about not enough room.

We raised three kids with a 99 Dodge quad cab. The back seat on the Tundra DC is FAR bigger.

No way in hell am I even considering that trade.

Mine is a DC. I have constantly have two car seats in it and a dog in between them. YES of the course the CM has more room for kids but the DC is a non issue for us. It’s bigger than the 2nd/3rd gen Tacoma and it has a a few less inches leg space than a 5th gen 4Runner/Highlander. However the rear seats are much higher than any of the models listed above. They only negative is the position of the B pillar is kinda in a weird spot when placing large bags on the floorboards in the rear. My wife was hesitant when we were looking at it but now we take it everywhere because it’s more comfortable and we have just as much room as her Highlander.

*EDIT* I forgot to add keep that beautiful blue truck!
