My friend purchased a Sienna last year pursuing a specific build, had no luck in So Cal, or Nor Cal had to get his out of Arizona, got double screwed with paying taxes over there and then over here in Cali... Let's not talk about the Toyota in the Bay area who wanted 45k mark up on a Rav4 Prime which was priced at 95k last year.

So, cars are expensive and you don’t think they are worth it.

I also remember paying 99 cents for a gallon of gas. I remember a pair of Air Jordan’s for $65, now they are $200. I remember my first house bought for $220k and sold for $500k. I remember bananas selling for 49 cents a lb, and now they are 65 cents a lb.

EVERYTHING is more expensive than in was, and it’s because of inflation. I guess you can cherry pick what is worth buying and what isn’t. But, I know that a Toyota Tundra 2018 TRD Sport 4x4 had an msrp of $48k or so when I shopped for my dad, and 5 years later, my 2022 had an msrp of $51k for basically an identical truck. As someone else already explained, lease deals are not the same as price of a car because they are based on residuals and cost factors, and both of those are drastically different today.

EPA ratings are significantly different. Fuelly shows at least 2mpg difference between the older and newer models, and it’s even more if you select hybrids only. If we’re to look at anecdotal evidence, there are hybrids on fuelly with 21mpg average.

    I average 17mpg with my non-hybrid ‘22 model. I do admit - I hoped for better.

Many people were able to afford the higher price of the new truck due to a hefty value of their old truck. For me buying a year ago was more affordable even if the rebates from MSRP increase in the future. Traded my truck in at hide tide of resell, got a loan rate in the 4s, and an identical 2024 is $5k more. The gap for sitting on the sidelines will just keep getting wider. There is not a day coming where you get the same model truck for near what you paid 15 years ago

But hey, look on the bright side: some of us are getting 1.5%-3% raises to keep up with all this inflation!

No they are not. Not for the wages we are making. Explthis to me because no one has done it yet. My 2020 was $39k OTD. A 3rd gen is about $11-12k more. What did Toyota do to the 22+ to make be worth that much more. I don't cherry pick what's worth more. Just like I bought my house for $235k but now they are selling for $600+,not worth it. Just because inflation hits doesn't mean products are worth it. All it means is that some rich person is losing money and has to raise his product to make it back, in a nutshell, obviously there more to it. But no, cars, house, boats, rv, etc are not worth what they are asking for these days.

I would have to agree with these comments, a comparable truck to what I own is roughly 4-5k higher than what I paid for mine.

That was just 6 months ago, it is not keeping up with COLA, no way

Is your plan to never buy a new vehicle again, ever? Are you expecting them to decrease in price?

My 2022 was $42k OTD by the way.

Canada is a bit different. We pay mrsp, but we sometimes have to buy add ons.

I was saving my “car payment” in a bank account (if we took a loan out we’d keep saving the payment once it’s paid off) as I waited out the “chip shortage” and whacko pricing. Well prepared to pay cash eventually.

but what I found was I was saving 10k a year, but the trucks were going up 5k a year so I wasn’t saving what I thought I was. But it’s relative too as I got a pretty high trade for my truck.

at the end of the day unless you absolutely 100% need a new car, don’t buy one if it’s priced more than mrsp. It really is that simple.

It’s all supply and demand (sometimes called supply and stupidity by my dad) and a dealer or manufacturer will charge exactly what the consumer is willing to pay, and not a dime less.

No. Obviously I will have to switch. But depending on my salary vs the price of vehicles at the time will dictate the path I take. Just like what I did this time around. Leasing was way more than buying out my truck, so I bought it out. And while your 22 was $42 OTD, it was an SR. I know that the SR now are more equipped than the later gen SR but none the less. I am though still waiting to see what the 3rd gen has over my 2020 that is worth $10-12K more. I just dont see it. I have told you in our conversations, if Toyota didn't price the 3rd gen the way they did or the crazy lease prices, I would be driving one right now. But to me, financially it makes no sense to jump to a 3rd gen when I have a perfect 2020 truck. And like the I was telling Musashi66, just because inflation is up doesn't mean that the tundra or anything for that matter is worth what its selling for.

Man i should stop paying $4.80/gal for gas here in the PNW and use that gas I was too young to buy at $1.21/gal 20 years ago.

It's ridiculous the price of gas. I remember 4.80++ so you must have been 6++ back then. Miami is currently at 3.37 is the lowest I have seen.

The class envy is pretty thick here.

If it wasn't for "some rich person" most people wouldn't have a job. That's the beauty of capitalism, anyone can become a "rich person" if they have the brains, desire, and motivation. Quite whining about wages, and create whatever income you want for yourself.

Sorry to be brash, but I have no tolerance for the entitlement mentality. If you don't make as much money as you'd like, find a way to make it happen. The opportunities are out there.

LOL!! Typical cancel culture BS. If someone posts hard truths, cancel them, because the truth hurts. I couldn't care less about being banned from this forum. It would only reinforce my opinions.

LOL LOL LOL. I make a 6 figure salary. In life there has to be and probably will always be all sorts of classes of people. With that said the ultra rich that keep ruining this country are the ones I have a problem with. The ones that want more and more and dont want to help the rest, not even a little. The down fall to capitalism is this, that there is no end to how much wealth you can make and hoard. But according to you, you would be fine if the top 1% of the rich folks controlled everything in America, including yourself. Because capitalism is good, right? Just like we fought The American Revolution that was started with The Boston Tea Party to put a stop to taxation. Yet here we are full circle being taxed on everything because of capitalism. There is no perfect system so dont go around beating your chest and screaming at the top of your lungs like there is.

No class envy at all. Just observing reality in relation to wages given from said rich person who owns the company that is reaping profits from workers backs these days. Which confuses me as to how that makes me or anyone else here discussing this, entitled for also speaking truth? Side note; I do appreciate all the rich people I get to take my money from though. Because that affords me my own life to live freely. Truths aren't offensive to me. Others, I can't speak for.

You won't because you can't, period. You can tell me how capitalism is so great and I can tell you how it's not. Plenty of people have come from poverty to ultra rich and now shit on the little people. The system that Americans put in place, now taxes the shit out of us. How is that a great system? I know what it's like to work hours on end every week. Time away from family and friends. Missed events and gatherings. All for what? That's not a life. But you know what, at least I now make a good wage where I dont have to do that shit anymore. But dont tell me that capitalism is the best because not everyone is as lucky. If it was the best then everyone would be happy if they worked hard. Millions of people will never know what its like to really have a life. Like I said, you won't because you can't. Once again, no system is perfect. I can deal with that reality. Can you?

I have no class envy at all. There will always be someone richer and someone poor than me, that's life. I am perfectly fine with the life I have built for myself but it wasn't easy and not everyone is afforded the same chances. No matter how hard you work or try, sometimes it just wasn't meant to be. I saw the part of the interview of the GM CEO with makes $30 million a year, great for her. But she talked down about the employees. Like they are beneath her. That I can't stand. I have also seen an interview of 2 Italian company owners. They were asked, why dont you pay your employees less so that you can make more? Their response, Why, we are happy with what we have, the employees are happy, the company is doing great. That's a real person. Not some heartless CEO that all they see in an employee is $$$ signs.

Gang, I think someone went off the track here...

The problem and really the whole thread here is about something that isn't supposed to be worth how much it's worth today. --CRAZY PRICES--, not poor peasants, okay?

A pickup truck for example, is not supposed to cost 80,000 dollars no matter if you're rich or poor.
