Coolant leak

    I drip occasionally.

    apparently only when there is a big temp difference. only about a tablespoon.

    here's the culprit.

    any insight?

    I tightened the top one a tad....will watch

    That is your engine oil cooler.

    What is with the non factory hose clamps?

    I had a hunch a superchager was involved.

    The factory clamps look like this:

    OEM Radiator Hose Clamp (inlinefour.com)

    I bet your leak was the clamps.

    The worm gear type need to be periodically adjusted.

    edit: I just examined the pic a bit better. The leak was from the top clamp. Look how much more tab is on bottom clamp vs top clamp. The top clamp was probably barely tight. You can even see a pink trail from the area.

    and yes it was looser than the bottom

    I put 2 whole turns on the top one

    qtr turn on bottom

    you guys are awesome

    glad to help.

    If the leak doesn't reappear I wouldn't sweat the clamps. If you are extremely OCD then I'd chase down factory clamps.

    When I put on Nic's MHX kit, I lost some clamps in the kit and had to use old worm gear type. They loosened a bit after some thermal cycles. I tightened them up and they stayed put.

    Then I found the clamps laying in my garage a few days later...lol.

    Yup - spring clamps like OEM best. Them make tools to remove them in tight spaces. Don’t use worm gear clamps. If you need to use a screw clamp then go with a T-bolt style.
