I have a 2008 with a 5.7 and under the oil fill cap it is full of "snot". The oil doesn't look milky and I see no signs of coolant when I do an oil change. Has anyone else seen this? Is it cause for concern? Maybe a PVC problem?

Short trips? My 06 did this due to the one mile commute to work. Never got up to temp

I just noticed this same thing yesterday on mine. The oil that I drained was not milky at all, and the coolant was just fine.

A google search mentions that this is normal in cold weather, and I hope that is correct.

Nope not short trips. I drive 25 miles one way to work and back every day. Engine is getting up to temp quickly as it should and stays there. 169,000 miles, very few short trips throughout its life.

If you are are not losing coolant, more than likely condensation in engine. Pretty normal in cold weather and short trips. Normally find at top of engine.

It is just condensation caused the the engine heating up and cooling down. If you drive short distances the engine does not get hot enough or stay hot long enough to let the moisture evaporate.

I would not worry unless the oil in the pan started looking funny.

I know GM cars and trucks have trouble with intake manifold gaskets due to the plastic/silicone material used. I have changed many of these gaskets and the first sign of trouble was this same type of snotty yellowish gunk under the oil fill cap. Has anyone had an intake off of a Tundra 5.7? I have no idea what type of gasket these engines have. I do not drive very many short trips with my truck. I drive 25 miles one way to work every day. I did a water pump and thermostat last year and used an after-market thermostat. I have noticed it doesn't seem to get to operating temp as quickly as it used to but it does get there within the first 3-4 miles and stays there.

If you are not losing coolant no worries.

Order a sample kit from black stone labs if you are worried.

I don't feel like there are many head gasket issues on the forum, so unless you are losing coolant and/or the oil looks like chocolate milk, I prob wouldn't worry

Pretty common on past vehicles I have owned. I just wipe it off. It went away on my 4runner after I changed the PCV but that may have been a coincidence as winter hasn’t come around again.
