Couple days ago I replaced my radiator.
Had a couple small leaks on the rear face of it that was covered with the plastic shroud.
I ended up removing the upper radiator hose entirely and noticed a little piece of plastic in the coolant bypass tube.

I’m awaiting a new bypass tube from Toyota in hopes there is the plastic check valve type of thing in there, however, now I’m wondering if this plastic piece is even apart of the bypass tube. Thoughts?

Looks like that is the lower part of your radiator cap broken off.

    You rock brother.
I actually 2 years ago remember having an issue with the oem cap. Something was missing and you are 100% correct sir. Surprised I did not think of this but thank you so much. No new bypass tube for me

Glad you found that piece and it didn't get sucked in to the water pump

Right!!!? I’m really surprised it was floating in there for 2 years.
I always thought it was hanging out in the radiator. Only bummer is I completely disconnected bypass tube which was a slight chore. And the gaskets on either side are toast, only thing I’m waiting on now apparently is 2 new gaskets and I can throw this thing back together. Sucks Toyota doesn’t keep many parts in stock anymore. They are “in a warehouse”
