Howdy, I was in the market for a new truck. I was all set to jump at a GMC Sierra AT4, 3.0 deisel, or the 6.2l. But then I made the mistake of checking on reliability. Tundra came up as the most reliable. So now I'm looking at the limited DC. TRD.

The GMCs look amazing. But my buddy had one and the radiator went at 45k miles. I guess it’s a design flaw they still haven’t fixed. If you want a truck for a few years go with GMC. If you want a truck for 5+ years go Tundra

What are you going to do with the truck? The only real down sides IMHO gas mileage, and towing. If you don't have along commute, or don't care about cost of gas, and you have no plans to tow or need heavy pay load. Jump..

Nothing wrong with the limited DC :)

CM you will have a shorter bed..

A5C4D393-1EFD-4B4B-9BC4-2D7072F93C3F.jpg 118,000 miles, not a lot, but many have been abusive! All I’ve done, other than mods, is a water pump and brake pads. The best part is NO rattles or squeaks. Truck is still tight. My brother, Lifetime Ford Guy, bought a 1794 Tundra after seeing how well mine held up. I had a 2500 hd Silverado that was falling apart after a similar 100,000 miles. FYI my brother is 6’2 he fits in the back seat with room left over! I personally can’t live with the shorter box on the CM. Some drop the tail gate but that’s just a magnet for rock chips!

    HALT!

Stand fast. These trucks have a payload limited to the equivalent of a wet Pekinese.

Also, if you plan on towing anything heavier than a golf cart the transmissions burst into flame from overheating. You can mitigate that somewhat by installing a payload-friendly cryogenic vessel to supply -276°F liquid oxygen to the diminutive transmission heat exchanger.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go with chevy. My own opinion, bad experience. I had a 2016 silverado. Wished i would've gotten a Tundra at that time. By the way, go with a crew cab. you'll be happier in the long run

Only real downsides to the Tundra are gas mileage and low payload capacity.

In regards to reliability issues, the only big ticket items for the Tundra are cam tower leaks and AIP pumps which are hit or miss.

I wouldn't buy a new GM halfton, or any truck with AFM/DOD/MDS. But I would buy GM's heavy duty trucks if I ever needed a bigger truck than my Tundra.

The 24 gallon fuel tank on the GM half tons are terrible, not sure why they decided it was a good idea to decrease the gas tank capacity on these new trucks. Also the 6.2 "requires" premium fuel, and based on my math, a Tundra running regular fuel at a lower mpg still costs less per mile than a 6.2 getting better mpg running premium.

If I had the money to buy a new truck I wouldn't buy a Tundra. Current model is a 2007 truck with a facelift, outdated tech and terrible fuel economy. Also make sure you are ok with the seats in the limited, hard as a rock.

Yes, but something can be said for buying an old design. I currently have a 2014 Jeep deisel (1st year for motor, and technology), it's been a nightmare.
I haven't checked out the seats in a limited. Is it different in a platinum or higher model?

Nothing wrong with a DC...I prefer the longer bed and dont need all that wasted room in the back seat, besides you can fit anyone in the back seat of a DC.

Obviously we are all going to say to get a Tundra. Aside from fuel economy, the real question is purpose. What are you looking for? Towing/hauling? Home Depot runs? Essentially if you want a half ton you will be happy. If you need larger then look elsewhere. I don’t tow and payload is not an issue. I use mine as a daily driver and plan on towing small stuff at some point. Some try to compare the Tundra to some 3/4 tons but that’s not a fair comparison. Apples to oranges. Once you decide if the Tundra is the truck for you, then browse the forum and decide on trim, cab size, packages, etc. Lots of good info here. Just gotta spend time to research. And more than anything, just go to your local dealer and sit in different trims and cab size. Sit in the back seat. Drive some. Then decide.
