I'm in purchase purgatory, awaiting my TRD Pro, and like everyone else in this same predicament, I look.
Did you know, for instance, Jeep Gladiators are basically unsellable at the moment and, soon, should drop precipitously in price?
It's really too bad I can't stand em. I suspect I could get a heckuva deal in the next few months. Which got me to thinking:
What would give YOU pause in purchasing a new Tundra? What other truck do you think k competes enough you'd be happy driving it?

They'll just ship all of the gladiators to Hawaii... Rental car companies like them and they just give them out to unsuspecting tourists... A truck without a closed trunk lol

land cruiser when they come back, grand highlander (since the sequoia interior layout sucks).

cant do lexus as the nearest dealer is 550 miles away for warranty work.

I toyed with the Silverado ZR2. I like almost everything a out it except the interior - it's trash.
The GMC AT4X is also, to me, comparable. But starting at $85k I can't even look at em.
The Ford offers a pano sunroof and some really cool features and functions, but they just don't have any... wow to them. Maybe because there's a billion of them on the road.
Ram's interior looks ungodly horrific to me.
The Jeep gladiator would be a decent work truck for my farm but dang I hate em.

Would love to see Jeep make a Gladiator 392!

If I had to buy a new truck tomorrow, the best deal going is a TRX in terms of what you get for the money. You can get them loaded for under $100K. Compared to $85K Limited Lariats, Limited Rams, and GMC Denalis, it’s a steal.

Second would be a non-hybrid, non-adaptive suspension Platinum Tundra for $64K

Third is a 6.2L Silverado RST. Was surprised at how nicely spec’d out they are at $65K’ish. Their new interior without the column shifter is much better than before.

I am going to hold out until my youngest graduates in 3 years, and hope Ram drops the Hurricane HO motor into their half tons……. If I don’t cave and buy a TRX sooner.

Picking up my 2023 Raptor this coming Saturday. Got it at MSRP and no wait as it was a backout order and the exact color and specs I would have ordered. Trading my 17 Tundra Platinum with 48.5k miles which was a very underwhelming truck, even after adding 7.5k of mods. It seems the Gen 3 Tundras have been much improved…the bar was low though …but no where near enough to sway me from the Raptor. Almost ordered a TRX at 10k off MSRP but wasn’t thrilled with getting single digit MPG and for my daily driving purposes the Raptor is a better fit and looks much better.

I haven't done the research on the Gladiators. What's behind the predicted price drop? My opinion is they try to do a lot of different things and do none of them particularly well. I've seen some pretty sick builds, but I doubt that I'd ever own. I'd be frustrated the moment that I tried to haul something in the bed and it would hang out 3' from the back. haha.

Side note...to answer the OP's question: When I researched going back to a full size truck, I looked hard at the F-150 Tremor. If I could've got the right deal on it, I might have gone that direction instead of the Tundra. My previous pickup was a Taco with 250k miles on it when I sold it, but my last full size truck was a 2007 F150. Thankfully, that F150 had the 4.6L in it so I didn't suffer the 5.4L issues that were rampant during that era so my F150 experience was better than that of a lot of other people.

My struggle with the Tremor was the price. It was a solid $18k more than my Tundra, not even including the ridiculous ADMs that Ford dealers were tacking on in my area. I also couldn't spec it in a comparable Double Cab w/ 6.5' bed (aka Ford's "Super Cab"). The Tremor is an awesome truck, but it came with a lot of interior extras that are "nice to haves" but I would've preferred to opt out of & not pay for.

There's a reason why the term "the Toyota Tax" is so common when speaking about used vehicles.

For me the only other truck that checks all boxes is the Raptor, if it weren’t for my love for Toyota I’d still be in one

I didn’t realize the Gladiator was doing that bad…looks nice when built up though.

AT4 was my other option…love the Raptors (and my son reminds me every time we pass one) but between markups, availability and don’t really need one I opted to look at a Tremor instead.

At the end of the day this is my second Tundra and I am trusting in Toyota’s reliability above all the others which is why I came back.

The US land cruiser. If it's similar in size and towing capacity as the 200 series I'll probably bite so long as it's not fugly.

Outside of Toyota it'd be an AT4 with the baby duramax. The facelift looks damn good and all these 0 for 60 promotion GM is running is getting tempting.
If I get the green light to run a fishing guide service along side my current job I'll probably go with the baby duramax anyway. I'm not sure I trust the ttv6 to tow my 21' boat 2-300 miles per week just yet.

No 6.5ft bed option for Raptor or Trx makes those difficult to use for hauling and thus are really lifestyle/people moving vehicles. Can tow. They are definitely cool though and I’d drive it if I got my hands on one. Plus their payloads are far less regular half tons due to the shocks/extra weight. Long term they will suffer from the AMG effect of very complex parts/expensive repairs.

Rivian is more of an Australian Ute with the 4.5ft bed, that’s not a serious “truck” and really a status symbol/lifestyle vehicle.

Gladiators main niche to me is roof top tents/light weight campers vs a wrangler, but then gets a much longer wheelbase limiting the original purpose. The small gas motor is a limitation as well for towing/hauling.

They’re actually extremely technologically advanced you just can’t option it out like a Tundra, the only reason I disagree with being overkill is nothing beats the on-road ride quality and not to mention off-road ability, they’re simply badass

I find this tundra super fun to drive. Feels like it’s in command of the road and just… fun. Feel like a teenager lol. Having said that if raptor came in a 6.5 box I’d drop the tundra like a bad habit

Depends on the model. The new Ram interiors under the Limited trim are worse in materials than my 2015 Laramie. They went cheaper.

Well said. Sure the Raptor may not be for everyone and is pricey, but can’t dispute it is the total package. Don’t know how someone would say that the G3 Raptor is less technologically advanced than
the new Tundra. It is class leading. Resale is also top of its class. I’m not a Ford fan boy either as the Raptor will only be my second Ford ever over 35 years of purchasing vehicles.

I'm kinda surprised cars dont have built in breathalyzers by now. That seems like a better idea than subscription gps or heated seats (i see where the market is headed). Cars that lock you out if the financial system f's up. Or more likely, defaults to lock when you lose connection. Eff it. You dont become the most profitable automaker by building the best and standing behind it. You gotta fuck alot of people over. Basic economics.

Id take a Raptor for sure. My only reason for not going that direction is towing numbers are low due to the suspension.
