Communication codes... dealership wants $186 and I have extended warranty

    I’m new here and from Illinois, just wondering if anyone has had any “lost communication codes” driving home the dash lit up w/ lost comm to brake Sys. module, Stop/start control module, steering angle sensor, 4wheel drive clutch control
    Dealership wants to charge me $186 to run diagnostic and I bought the extended warranty… it doesn’t seem right

    Should still be covered under the originally warranty unless the mileage is over.

    Is that $186 your deductible on the extended warranty?

    No my deductible is only $100 they weren’t very clear with any information. When I called to set up an appt. She told me it would be $186 for a diagnostic scan… and then they would decide what was covered

    They always say that. All things aren’t covered under warranty. When the squirrels crawl into the engine compartment and start chewing wires, not covered under warranty lol

    Yup that is correct, you need to pay the tech "dealership" to find out what is wrong. Then they check with the extended warranty to see if it covered. You are paying for their time if it is not a covered component.

    They may call you and ask for more time. It's normal.

    The above folks are correct, it's preparing you for a charge if the concern is not covered. Some warranty companies want consent for engine tear down if the concern is internal. That's a buzz kill, imagine telling a customer that.

    The truck is a 2023 and under 36K, so short of something like rodent damage or self-induce damage, it should be covered completely.

    I doubt they will make you pay up front, it's purely precautionary.

    That is pretty normal at the dealership I use. I've been told that a couple of times and only paid once due to a blown fuse vs a vehicle manufacture issue. I would have preferred not to pay but it is a business and business expect to be paid for their work.
