Just after I posted my starting problem was fixed, my 2006 4.7 screwed up again. After being fine for approximately one month it didn't start right away in my warm garage. It finally did start and I took it back to the shop that had done the previous work. I will update when fixed. Seems that every little thing I change works for a month then back to hard starting. Might end up being fuel pump but more testing will tell. 120K miles.

I'm wondering if you're dealing with what someone else had been, where there was corrosion in a connector that went back to the fuel pump.

Dont' forget, the Crank Position Sensor is required for fuel pump to continue running; did you check its harness for nicks or other damage, since it often gets misrouted when timing belt is done, then nicked?

Have you confirmed in those cases whether or not you have fuel pressure? There was a weird case of intermittent starts, where someone's rubber pickup hose on the fuel pump kept coming loose, randomly.

Have you confirmed in those cases whether or not you have spark? A simple spark light thingy that plugs in between the coil and plug will tell you quickly.
