    Hello Forum,

My check engine light came on. Code was p0420. Does anyone know what the fix is and if it’s under the power train warranty. Thanks

    Stick to “medicinal” use only.

in all seriousness looks like it’s related to cat efficiency. Someone will come with a serious answer if your cats haven’t been stolen.

    Also welcome to the forums

On a serious note, it's probably an O2 sensor. I'd also suspect wiring damage since, according to your profile, it's a 2020. It should also be under the emissions warranty unless the mileage is outrageous.

It only has 40,000 so I’m hoping it’s under the warranty. Would it be loud if the cat was stolen

Yea they are all there, just wondering if it would be covered under power train warranty since it’s dealing with emission

Code po420 is indicating that bank 1 cat is not working properly . A scan tool that can read upstream and Downstream oxygen sensors can be helpful . Things such as oxygen sensors and exhaust leaks can give faulty codes too though .

I have 43K miles on my 2022 1794 hybrid Tundra. The P0420 code indicates all the sensors. Along with that is a performance symptom, gas mileage reduced and engine pushing as if in a head wind. Those combined indications have led to Toyota determining a bad Catalytic Convertor which is covered by the Power Train warranty, 80k miles.
They will order the part and get it a day later and have my truck ready to go, at no charge to me. I have had one or another Toyota truck since 1990 and never a warranty issue. I am pleased that they are going to handle this for me.

They offered me a loaner Highlander since we planned a trip out of town for Thanksgiving, and they dragged their heals getting around to this fix. I can't pick up the Tundra until they re-open Monday. But it is repaired, and ready for me to use it again. They kept the same O2 sensors, sounds cheapo to me, I would have replaced those too while I was in there. When I get it back, I'll see if the MPG is back to normal. It has to be better.
