Hello Everyone! I'm new to the site and a new to Tundara Ownership. I just bought a used 08 RWD SR5 w/ 170,000 miles.

I didn't notice it during test drive, but after a few days, I noticed it would sometimes clunk or maybe a slight jerk (i don't know the exact word to describe it) when taking my foot off the gas and accelerating. It's not really vilolent or loud, but its there for sure. Also happens when coming to a stop.

Local shop said it's the motor mounts. Didn't really get a great vibe from the guy, so i figure i'd turn to you folks.

It runs very smooth, and drives well at high speeds (no vibration). It doesn't seem to have any issues shifting in and out of gear (no jerks or clunks. maybe some creaks).

Does the engine mounts seem reasonsale for what I'm experiencing? I snapped some photos. They look bad to me, but I'm no expert. I'm including a few photos.

Also a follow up questions, since I'm new, do ya'll have any insight to any common issues I might run into?

That can happen- I used to have a built 72 dodge swinger with a 340 that was so powerful it would rip motor mounts about every year. It had deep rear gears and tons of torque, same type of clunk when letting off the gas meant it was time to replace them again.

Sure sounds and looks like the mount is bad. Long time ago I had a 67 Cadillac with a bad mount that would do the same thing. Try having someone rev the engine slightly while in drive and holding the brakes firmly. You should see one side rising up while doing that if a mount is bad.

Another possibility is the transmission mount , my Trans Am clunked the way you’re describing and that’s what it was .

Any one ever determine the cause? I have the same issue. Seems to happen the most when letting off the gas briefly at like 30-40mph and then thumps once i get back on the gas.

There's a TSB for the driveshaft on early 2nd gens. With my 2007 I can't coast around 30-40mph & slightly feather the throttle. The driveshaft will slam & jar the whole truck. As long as I'm on (at least 25% throttle) or off the gas it won't do it.

I have the same issue on my 2014 with 80k miles.
My first thought was the motor mounts as well. Though when the mounts are bad usually it is very noticeable when you shift gears and look in the engine back the engine will rock noticeably.
    Mine does not budge.

anyone done motor mounts or have a video on the process for these trucks?
