I was playing around with the traction control off (full 3-4 second press to disable). I didn’t think to turn it back on before I headed out on a trip. It started raining on the interstate and everyone slowed down to a snail pace (About 40 mph). I got a bit impatient and went to pass. When I rolled on the gas the truck lost traction, turned sideways, and I started hearing all these beeps (traction control?!?!). I corrected the steering and the truck turned almost sideways back the other direction, but indeed corrected and never even left my lane.

    1. I thought it was interesting that the traction control managed to still kick in even though it was turned off.
    2. I could not believe how gracefully the truck corrected given the situation. I thought for sure I was about to total my truck.
Is this normal? Is there some type of fail-safe built in to TC that lets you get rowdy, but not too stupid? Regardless, hats off to the engineers that designed this. It def saved my butt.

Vehicle Stability Control was still on and it took over and applied brakes on some of the wheels to correct the truck. That happened in an instant.

You didn't notice the lights that were still on in the gauges? LOL I've played around with mine in the snow just a touch and get the same results as described by @art64. But ya, I'm still kinda apprehensive about turning off some of the nannies and getting aggressive with the go-pedal, and I don't have the mods that you do. Even the RCSBs are still a lot of mass that just keeps going. I've put myself in a couple parking lot snowbanks tinkering around, and you're just along for the ride when it starts to slide.

If you turn that stuff off, doesn't it automatically turn on when you start it the next time?

OP I got the impression you turned off a different time than your highway trip but maybe all on same ride..

One thing that i will always give Toyota is the safety side of things.... The "nannies" in these trucks kicks in quicker than any of the other brands out there. (at least the ones i've driven)
It kicks in during necessary situations before one even notices it. It had definitely saved my bacon a few times...
