2006 tundra

So where you would normally Turn the knob to take your Ac out of defrost. That knob only turns so far and almost wants to spring back.. I’ve changed the whole assembly. But I believe it’s the cable. What’s the best rout to go about changing out that cable and how can I find where it runs to?
