Hearing a click sound coming from under the truck when putting cold engine into reverse when pulling out of driveway. I’ll put it into drive and then into reverse and it won’t click. It only does it when I first start up the truck and put it into reverse for the first time during a commute. Thoughts?

At 6mph the ABS actuator does a self check and makes a click type sound. See if you get the same sound when you first start the car but put it in drive. At exactly 6mph you should hear it. It will do it every time you start the truck and you start moving either forward or backwards.

Otherwise you might be hearing pad shift

    I hope that helps

^ yup... either the ABS check or the brake pads shifting in the calipers.

I’m familiar with the ABS check. This is not it, sounds a little metallic. Almost like taking two small 10mm wrench’s and tapping them together. Could that be the break pad shift you are talking about?

I want to say that the sound is very similar. Only have 6k on this truck. Is that a part that goes out quickly?

interesting. The carrier bearing should not go out in 6k miles though… unless it was bad to begin with.
OP, does the noise happen right when you put it in gear or when the truck starts to move? Is the sound coming from the front of the truck or from the rear of the truck?
I thought of something else. It could be your lower control arms shifting. When I had my truck lifted, I got an alignment done and after a day or so of driving, I would get a loud click or thunk when I transition from moving forward to reverse and vice versa. It turned out that the alignment shop did not torque the cam bolts tight enough and the control arms were shifting back and forth. That could be a possibility on a new truck.
That is something that you can easily check. Crawl under your truck and see if you can tighten those bolts more.

Yeah, wasn't aware you only have 6k on the truck. I agree with @Netmonkey that the video I posted would be highly unlikely in your scenario and re-reading your statement about it happening only on cold start would also discount what I was thinking.

Only happens about half a second after I initially put it into reverse, even without moving. I can back out of my driveway, put into drive, then back into reverse and no sound. I believe it sound like it’s coming from right under the front seats

odd.. maybe it is the transmission going into gear? is this on a 2022 model? no lift? try to capture this on video or have a friend look under it while you put it into gear. it is hard to further diagnose without seeing or hearing it.
