Chirping sound from rear axle

Hi all,

Didn't find anything in the search, thought I'd see if anyone had some ideas.

I'm getting a sharp chirping sound coming from the rear when I go over any small bump in the road. I'm thinking maybe the leaf springs need a little moly grease? Could be rear shocks?

Though I would ask before I remove and inspect my leafs.

 

I have a similar chirping sound that I thought was leaf springs and I actually traced it to the tailgate latch. I was able to recreate the sound by getting in the bed and making it bounce a little by kinda jumping and found it that way. See if you can locate it by shaking the truck or jumping in the bed.

 

Thanks for the input. I'm doubting it's my tailgate, it's pretty loose, but I'll try to get the kids in the back and jump around, see if I can isolate the noise.

 

Found it, spare tire was loose, tire rubbing on the bed frame made the squeak. Crisis averted!

 

I wish all crisis were this easy to fix.
