Just bought the BakFlip G2 Trifold hard cover. Still in the box. The vendor I bought it from said Bak advised to NOT install any kind of coating or protectant. I had previously thought I would put a ceramic coating on it to protect against UV fading. I keep my vehicles a long time.

I emailed Bak today, will see what they say. Anyone have any experience or advice on the topic? Thank you

I have had both, aluminum and fiberglass panels. I had a Bakflip that was aluminum, it faded. Currently have another brand, can't remember the manuf, but it's fiberglass. It started fading and you could see the fiber. I got some Rust-Oleum bedliner paint and painted the panels. Best thing I did. So, I would use something before you install it to keep it looking new.

Thank you. That was my thought as well. I suppose if I had to leave it untreated and in so many years address the fade with paint like SEM or Rustoleum, so be it. But it sure seems practical to preserve it from day one. This one is powder coated aluminum, black color of course.

The inference from the shop I bought it from was that a coating would actually harm the finish or accelerate the degradation. Doesn’t sound right to me.

Got a very prompt reply from Bak. They suggest using 303.

Does someone more expert in the products/chemistry have an opinion of using 303 vs ceramic coating? Maybe should ask this question in the detailing forum

Edit: the question is the preferred way to protect a Tonneau trifold hard cover. It is powder coated aluminum. 303 or ceramic coating for UV protection? It has a fairly high gloss and a dimpled texture

I’ve had my Bakflip for 5 years and use 303 on it and Honda Shin Etsu on the rubber folding parts. The cover still looks brand new after all these years.

No problem. It’s been great. The only gripe I’ve had is that the clips that hold the rods against the rail broke. I bought new ones on Amazon.

Other than that, the 303 has been good UV protection. I use it on the Bakflip and the vinyl interior parts.
