Cement grille and hood bulge

Anyone with a 2018 Buy 2017 Pro grille/bulge and swap the honeycomb insert? Was the insert difficult to swap? How did the colors match...Thanks

 

I will let you know. I have a 2018 cement CM SR5 and my 2017 Pro hood bulge and grill assembly will be delivered today. Still deciding if I will use the Pro insert or the honeycomb. I may try the honeycomb to see if I like it. Don't want to void my TSS warranty by using the 2017 pro grill insert and TSS relocation bracket. I will have to keep the honeycomb insert and swap out the Pro before I take it to the dealer if I have TSS issues.

I have! the clips for the insert are a bit tricky but not difficult. Just try not to break too many. The color was a little off, but nothing that made me feel the need to go repaint it.

 

I did the swap and to me, the color match was perfect. Broke a few tabs (the corners broke on both the new color match AND the original chrome) but those two clips really didn't affect the integrity of the overall grille.

 

Any specific tools you used on tabs to make it easier??

Matches pretty good but not 100%. Overall really happy. It took less than 5 minutes to replace the hood bulge.

 

Finished the install tonight. Was easy except the tabs for the grill insert are kind of a pain. When removing the TRD grill from the cement surround I didn't break any tabs. When removing the 2018 honeycomb grill from the chrome surround I broke three. IMHO looks better with the honeycomb or at least until I decide to get the 2019 TRD grill...

 

How is the color difference in person?

 

Minimal and depends on light and angle. Sometimes the match looks exact. I am really happy with the result. Now I have to sell the trd pro insert...

 

none of them match, ever. look at every picture of a 'matched' grille on the forum and in real life. I think its just plastic next to metal and crappy Toyota paint.

I have 2019, and when i bought it in jan it seemed complicated. I emailed roman but i wasnt confident with answers i got with changing the chrome grill and bulge all cement. I guess it was too new and i dont know if anyone has done it yet. I bought an sr5 for bench seat but was told i couldnt get all matching. But figured i could do it if the other models had matching. really debating getting rid of it because i hate the chrome. Can anyone help
