Sorry if repeat question.. Looks like my gianormous phone, with the case, doesn't fit into this Toyota cell charger that is installed into the center armrest thingy.

Does anyone know if the phone will still charge with it sitting in the tray like this? I'm guessing no, but figured I'd ask before I went through the trouble of installing. Thanks!

Normally for wireless charging to work your phone has to be laying flat against the surface. So I assume that wouldn't work just based on my experiences. I do not have that wireless charger in my truck so it's possible that I'm wrong.

Like @RobertD said, I doubt it’s gonna charge like that. A more slim case would likely be the answer, and the sacrifice of durability unfortunately.

It needs to be flat, even the case can mess it up. It’s not too hard to install and it’s a good feature for your passengers if that helps

Looks like it wouldn't work due to the distance from the coil.

More than happy to take it off of your hands for ya!!!

What size is your case? Mines 6.5" x 3.25" and curious if it'll lay flat (haven't bought the truck yet)

For guys with the charger, is the coil pretty large? I know on my home charger I have to position my phone in just the right position to connect, but its just a cheapo little thing.

Ok went outside and tested it. I slid my phone into the cubby with the bottom of the phone resting on the charger and the top of the phone dropping in like shown in your photo. It started charging with enough room to slide the top of my pinky underneath the phone. I know our hands aren't the same and I wish I had a second phone to send you a picture but I could work! I'll try and get a picture when my wife comes home.

I installed mine and found that it didn't work work for me. I decided to pull it and just add a dash mount to plug in for Android Play. It is a great idea and will wish it would have worked out. If you have the time and don't mind an experiment......You can pull the back panel and plug it in to "try" it out. That would at the very least give you an idea if it will work without fully installing the unit. Good luck!

I got this charger pre-installed in my truck. I would not do it again. The charge is too slow - slower than my Qi charger by my nightstand. And the electric field that charges the phone decreases significantly as space is increased. If it works with space between the phone and the surface, I absolutely guarantee that it is more like a trickle charge that will be very disappointing.

My Note 9 (with 6.4" screen) was just like that, got a thinner case and fits just fine now.

This is probably true, mine seems to charge just fine when in the tray but I would assume charging would be slower with space between.

Electric fields diminish in an inverse square proportion. For instance, if the charge surface is 2x the original distance, the electric field is 1/4 as strong.
