Best solution is to have OEM cats replaced by OEM. Aftermarket cats seem to be hit but mostly miss. Is there a reason you didn't stay with OEM? I know there is a shortfall on cats right now.

In your situation your solution is constrained by your states laws regarding emissions. Defoulers or mini cats seem to be the solution for most cat issues. O2 emulators or tuning it out is a less favorable action but your state may allow it.

For someone to help you further you'll probably need to provide state or local restrictions on cats/emissions and also provide any codes that may have popped up. CEL light is too broad to trouble shoot.

As far as smoke emanating from the cat I've heard of debris or metal shavings causing issues if the cat material gets imbedded which can cause hot spots and smoke.

Is all the other maintenance on your truck up to date, such as air filter, plugs, PCV valve, etc? Reason I ask is, perhaps the vehicle is running rich or lean which is causing issues with the cats and o2 sensors to begin with. Aftermarket intake?
