Greetings all you Tundra Lovers, I am new to the forum but wanted to write about thiefs cutting all my Cats off my 2009 Toyota Tundra 4x4 TRD. We were staying at a Holiday Inn near George Bush International Airport. We where in Houston and stayed the night in Houston as we had friends flying in prior to a Cruise out of Galveston. We drove from Mo to Tx on Friday. While my Truck was parked overnight at the Hotel someone cut all my Cats off my truck. I drove it with open exhaust 1 hour south to Galveston and parked it to go on our cruise. When I got back it was a Sunday so I drove it 750 miles back home and had a muffler shop replace with aftermarket exhaust. I have now returned 3 times with check engine light coming on. Anybody recommend what can be done? The muffler shop was recommended by Toyota as they have had losses on their lot as well. I am waiting to hear back from them as they are talking with their supplier. Looking to eliminate if I can get away as I have to have my truck inspected. Not sure if this is required. Don't want to be a gross polluter, but my backyard bon fires probably cause more damage than my truck.

Houston is so bad for cat theft right now.....sorry about your loss man.

Aftermarket cats throw codes more often than not. I don't know if putting sims would help?

Ive been in houston for 2 weeks and cant get anyone to steal my cats. I’ve moved my truck out to the street in front of an empty lot, parked at a mall for a day, parked in the dark at a hotel…Starting to feel like my cats are unwanted. One can only hope. Im about to have to go back home where humans are acceptable, and i was hoping to get a trophy.

Welcome and greetings from Minnesota. Cat theft is a big deal up here in the Twin Cities too so I refuse to do any business there. I do all my shopping in the smaller suburbs north of that mess. Sorry to hear of your ordeal. Good luck finding a solution.

Do share the general safe location you are referring to as I'm guessing it's around a DPS station :p

The couple that we have done with A/M cats, it'll take a few resets to get the CEL lamp to stay off. That is assuming the exhaust shop used semi decent cats.

    Welcome from NY.
I would try and get one off a wrecked Tundra if you can't get OEM, aftermarket cats are so-so.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Sorry to hear about your cats, but I'm glad your truck is still drivable! Newer trucks seem to be a lot more sensitive.

We make that trip up to the Concordia area to see family at least once a year, I can't imagine doing it with basically open headers. Hope you had some ear plugs! The last couple of trips I've done it in one long day there (and one back) to avoid stopping due solely to being paranoid about cat theft. Although, the suggestion of long tube headers and a tune are intriguing if it'll pass inspection. :monocle:

I have nothing to help other than moral support. Hope you get it straightened out soon!

Cops still don’t know what crime rings or shipping ports are behind this? Citizens need to start taking investigations into their own hands, it’s obvious the police are inept or being held back by higher ups in the ranks.

In this same area approximately 1 week after mine was stolen an off duty Deputy and his wife came out of a nearby grocery store. He ask his wife to stay back as he noticed 2 men under his truck and a driver in a car parked nearby. As he approached they opened fire on him. He was able to shot 2 of them but the off duty Officer died. The investigtion led to the police finding 2 guys at hospitals being treated for gun shots. They were able to fid all 3 who are up on charges of Capital murder. RIP to the off duty Deputy!
