Cat back exhaust bolts - can I cut them off?

I need to replace my cat back exhaust. My muffler is split wide open at the top, and the resonator is looking like it can fall apart anytime. I'm leaning towards ordering the bolt in cat back from Dirty Deeds because it also replaces the Y-Pipe section which looks pretty restrictive to me (weld in doesn't do that). I've been using penetrating oil on the bolt the last few days, and I used mapp gas on it this morning just to see if I can loosen them. I think these bolts are too far gone to use a socket to get them out. Any reason I can't use a 3" die cutter and cut the heads off along with the nut sections off the backs of these flanges when I replace the exhaust?

Yes, that is what I had to do with mine. Cut them off, air chisel it out and replace with new ones.

Which catback version are you considering? Keith snake charmed me into placing a big order with him last week

he mentioned to me how restrictive the stock y pipe is when we discussed options

I believe that's it. I know it replaced the Y pipe and included muffler and resonator.

he's making mine a larger diameter since I'm not doing full dual exhaust but I'm getting the headers

which muffler did you go with? I'm getting the 16 inch which for 1st gen's is close to the 10 inch for the 2ndgen's. I didn't want it loud or waking up the neighbors

I used an angle grinder for that job. A couple bolts had broken off in the welded-on nuts so I had to cut my nuts off. :)

You will love your DD system. I have two of them, an 8" standard system w/resonator, and a straight pipe system. I like the straight pipe system better, but I think I'll add a resonator to it before long.

I sure wish I could afford what @Weagle is getting though!

yeah, when I started my rebuild/refresh of my truck, I had more money than sense.
Now I think they're about equal.

On the flip side of that, you've got a fucking awesome truck that I think 90%+ members here would be overjoyed to have sitting in their driveway...

Thanks. And thanks to this forum I'm extremely pleased with everything I've done. The only thing I would've done differently was when I dechromed, I removed all of the badges. If I had known at the time what I know now, I would've left them and opted for black overlays

I haven't ordered yet. Probably will order the 20" this week. I want it quiet, but with a deep mellow tone, and no drone. I just had been seeing if my exhaust bolts could even be loosened, or cut off when the time came.

I called Keith yesterday and ordered my partial bolt on kit with the 20" muffler. With the sale going on you can get $100 and free shipping. He told me there were 5 or 6 builds in front of me (instead of the normal 30) so I may be receiving it a bit earlier than expected. Just letting you all know that if you've been thinking about it, that now is a good time to get your order in.
