I have a 2018 crewmax and a 2 inch spacer lift up front with 1.5 block lift in back. My daily driver but I do tow with some regularity (mainly a dump trailer). Bought roadmaster shocks to help with the towing and liked them but ended up with a driveline vibration that drove me nuts so I returned them.

I bought a set of blue sumo springs but I then realized I never did a carrier bearing drop. I suspect the roadmasters may have raised things just enough to cause the vibration and a carrier drop might solve it? Should I just forget it and stick with the sumo springs? No vibration at the moment.

And while I’m at it, any information about towing with shackles vs the block? I don’t really want to go AAL route. Thanks!

I’d bet it wasn’t the roadmaster springs(Roadmaster Active Suspension?) at all but the need for the carrier bearing drop, and you seriously downgraded your suspension with getting sumo springs instead. Your choice for future plans is all yours, I have the RAS HD and swear by them…

I agree it was the lack of the carrier bearing drop causing the vibration especially with a trailer hooked up.

I think I’ll give the roadmasters another shot.

Did your vibration issue get resolved?

So the carrier bearing drop kit was the solution?

Ras adds .5 to full inch of lift. You needed a CB drop. I have shackles with ras for total 2.5 inch lift with Coachbuilder drop kit plus a few washers since I'm past 2 inches. No vibration.

Is a carrier drop necessary with a factory TRD PRO suspension when installing RAS?

I have the CB 0-2” carrier drop kit and the vibration is still there.

Probably not since it's only an inch at most

    Alot of them
Add a couple of washers to it and see what happens. You may need the bigger CB kit.

I just have the RAS on stock Pro suspension, set with thicker black disc. Lift is around 1” over stock.

Good to know. I’ll give this a shot since it’s basically free.

You could put a few standard washers in place of the drop kit. Are you sure it's only an inch?

I measured and wrote it down but don’t have it in front of me. IIRC, it might have gained 1” over the CB+1 shackle height, which would be approx 1.5” over stock since I went back to stock shackles with the RAS.

Still it's weird that drop kit should be more than sufficient

    No issues.

The HD gave me quite a bit more than 1” of lift. My truck has rake even with the +2” up front of the Pro suspension.

I grabbed a handful of 3/8” “plate” washers, which are pretty much square pieces of steel about 1.75” square. They’re 3/16 or 1/4” thick with a 3/8” hole. In other words, a fat square washer.

They’re stupid cheap and you can start with 2 and go up or down till your vibe is gone. Can’t remember if I have two or three in mine. Been there for a couple years. The OEM bolts are plenty long, and mine is silky smooth now. 2” rear lift via Deavers and shackles.

When you get a minute, could you measure how much your drop is with the 2 or 3 washers?

It’s raining like a bitch here…. It’s about a half inch though. Maybe 5/8. I was surprised that it smoothed out as much as it did with such a small change.
