Has anyone had any experience with a capless gas tank?

Twice in the last three months, I've been rolling along and got the "Check Engine" light.

Freak out in my head, then grab the OBD code reader.

    PO441/PO445.

Gas station attendant has left the cap loose. Not a big deal, really, but having had cars that were lemons in the past, I'm a bit touchy.

I have a BC rig at work that has a capless gas tank, and I know that they make aftermarket replacements for my current gas cap.

Anyone worked with one on their Tundra?

It's fine for the rig at work, it sits 90% of the time.
But, this will be for my daily driver.

Opinions solicited, please let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks!

Someones job is to pump gas all day and they don't know how to screw on a gas cap???

Make sure that code goes away. Sometimes there's a fuel line on the gas tank that leaks and throws that code. Requires a complete gas tank replacement.

If it's really the gas station attendent not doing their job, I'd just make sure it's fully tight after filling up than to mess with aftermarket gas caps. These trucks seem to be finicky with that code

Where do you live that someone pumps your gas for you? I thought that went away in the 80's.

I've had them on my last F150 and my son's Tarsus. The F150 was a 2011 and I had it until this past summer and never had an issue. I've not installed and used one though.

Not having to mess with a gas cap is awesome, but that funnel adaptor was a PITA

I'd rather have to dial a combination, submit a thumb print and then unscrew a gas csp rather than deal with ford's abomination. Lol

Oregon. It's illegal, and it's super fcking annoying. Gas stations are under-staffed and the employees are less than stellar at their job.
I can't tell you how many times I've pulled into an empty station and had to wait for an attendant to get off of their phone to come pump my gas. I've also wasted countless hours of my life waiting for someone to come pull the nozzle out of my truck so I can drive away, even more hours waiting for someone to come pump it. To top it all off, they have ONE JOB and can't even get it right half of the time because I too, have had countless CELs because they don't screw the cap on until it clicks.

If anyone finds a capless cap, let me know. My wife's Pilot has one and it's amazing.

No, that is reserved for state certified hose attendants, which sounds interesting, but it's not.

It's not. A handful of people like it because they don't have to get out of their warm car or whatever, but I've probably wasted 4 days of my life waiting for someone to either pump my gas or remove the nozzle, and I've only been an Oregonian for 21 years. Sometimes getting gas is a 20 minute ordeal.

In their defense, those gas attendants you are slandering are totally stoned: for being stoned, they're actually doing a pretty good job.:rasta:

Our Civic has a capless however I am pretty neutral whether I have one or not. One thing to know though at least on the Civic you want to wait 5-10 seconds after pumping gas otherwise if you pull it out right away it will spray a bit. :)

    No...sorry, I had one on my F-150.

Not to mention you are giving you CC to someone that was too smart to finish 9th grade. I tried to play nice in the past when I visited OR, but life is way to short to wait for those sloths. I’ll top the tank off at highway gas station rip-off prices before crossing into OR now. Or if I have to refuel, count to 60 and then play the “whoops, I’m from WA...” card.

Inhaling the fumes from pumping gas all day long 5 days a week probably does wonders to yoir brain. No wonder they don't know how to turn a gas cap.
