Can't see Head Unit with Sunglasses On

I did a search but did not find this particular subject so starting a new thread. I just bought a 2021 1794 with the JBL sound system. When I put my sunglasses on, the screen looks like a rainbow of stripes and I can't hardly see it. I did not have this problem with either my 2007 or my 2016. Anyone else have this issue?

That’s why. The HU must have a polarizing filter in the screen - a lot of LCD displays use this to reduce glare. They must have changed something. I had an old iPhone that did this - couldn’t see display when wearing Polarized sunglasses.

 

So is this "new technology" for Toyota? They have had this figured out for marine electronics for a long time. I wonder if there is a screen protector out there that could reverse this effect somehow??

 

My iPhone 12 screen is readable when wearing polarized sunglasses but there is a noticeable “rainbow” effect. “New Technology” and “Toyota” typically are not mentioned in the same sentence!

 

Not likely, polarization aligns how the light travels so you would only be adding a layer to the problem.

Can you see the screen if you tilt your head? If you can the only way to fix it is to shift the orientation of your lenses or of the film on the screen.

 

Definitely an "issue" with polarized glasses. I specifically buy non polarized for driving for this exact reason. It's been an issue for a while. I save the polarized lenses for fishing.

 

I hear ya guys...just did not notice this on my 2016 at all. Otherwise I love my new 1794 TRD. Lots of great features that my 2016 Limited did not have. Was not sure how the interior color would go with the silver but it does and looks great
