Have a 2019 Tundra SR5 CrewMax with 38 gal tank. On a recent trip I filled the tank and drove 546 miles. The reported MPG was 19.2. (I had a nice tailwind.) This would mean I used 546/19.2=28.4 gallons leaving 9.6 gallons in the tank. However, the reported cruising range is 46 miles, or approximately 4.8 MPG! Seems like a more reasonable estimated range would be 15 MPG or 9.6x15=144 miles. I read in another thread that 10% of the tank capacity is held in reserve but this would still leave 9.6-3.8=5.8 gallons or 5.8x15=87 miles. It seems like the reported range is simply the original estimated range when I filled up (590 miles I think) less the miles driven. What I really want to know when the tank is low is "how far can I go before running out of gas" so the original estimated range less miles driven is not a useful number. Is there some way to get a reasonable range estimate without doing the arithmetic? Thanks.

You seem stressed about this, but what a great problem to have...

"My truck says it's out of gas, but the damn thing just keeps going!!!"

I would say every truck is a little different, and your best bet is to take a 5 gal can with you and run it out of gas, then report back.

    Thanks in advance!

I dont think so, though it would certainly be nice.

I’m my 2007, I was towing my camper and was at “2” miles range.

Filling up, I only put in 21.9 gallons. I still had 4.5 gallons or another 40 or so miles!

The miles to empty calculator is simply that - a calculator. And it will vary depending on your driving conditions but typically figure itself down to about 6-8 gallons remaining.

The 38 gallon tank has a large reserve. On average, if you run your computer all the way down to 0 miles to empty you'll typically get between 30-32 gallons back in the tank. Once at "0" you could reset your trip A and drive probably another 50 miles and get about 34-36 gallons back in. There are a few guys on the forum who have just about run it out of gas and gotten 38 gallons back in the tank.
