So 2 years ago I got new suspension on my 07 truck at about 220k miles because the stocks finally blew but my local tire shop that I got it installed at said that they couldn't get factory replacements after they already took the whole truck apart and said they had another in store brand that they could put in that day instead of keeping my truck for an extra week and a half to wait for parts, which I did. They ended up putting god knows what brand in the front and I think monroe shocks in the rear and it rides absolutely horrendously. I've now stopped going to that place because they failed multiple times to properly balance and rotate my tires but that's not here nor there. Anyways, I'm looking to upgrade to bilstein's 6112 coil overs in the front but I don't want to level/lift the front any because I love the way that the stock ride looks. Plus I tow a lot and haul quite a lot for work and I don't want to have it squatting. Can I run the 6112s in the front without lifting or do I need to add the spacer for the best performance. If not, should I just get OEM ones instead?

I should also add, if I do end up getting the 6112s can I add the B8 UCAs without lifting as well?

    Thanks in advance!

The bottom setting for 6112s will yield .75” of lift. It’s quite mild in terms of lift, but it is there!

Do you know if it will affect performance at all?

Yes. For the better. Increased damping performance across the board. Your ride will be slightly firmer, but absolutely more confident. You’ll get used to it quickly, and notice that the pot holes and what not don’t hit back nearly as hard as they used to.

That is exactly what I wanted to hear thank you!

One last question I have would be do would I need the B8 control arms to match the 6112s or just stick with the stock ones?

Stock UCAs will be just fine. No need for new arms unless you just want them at the ride height you’ll be running.

Also, if you haven’t sourced your 6112s we’re happy to help overs here at Hotshot Offroad. Got them on the shelf and at the ready. :)

Ditto. The 6112’s are great and worth the money, IME. They also work great for towing, in case that was your next question. No adverse affects that I’ve been able to find in 100k miles of 6112’s.

Do you run just the 6112s and stocks in the rear or do you have the matching 5160s?

I went with 5160’s. They are a great match. They are a little stiffer than stock but my truck is never empty so it doesn’t really feel firmer - just more controlled. I left my 6112’s on the lowest setting - one of the weirdos that didn’t buy them for lift.

I’m also the weirdo that will buy it without lifting I honestly just think leveling/lifting is stupid for trucks in my area because no one is using them for the intended purpose. Plus whenever you level it you gotta add bags in the back if you ever plan on towing or else your gonna be looking up at the sky. Just my personal opinion though

Haha. I hate headlights pointing at the power wires. I also think leveled trucks pulling heavy trailers look like a toddler with a loaded diaper… I do have bags, too, though. I tow and haul a lot, so they just keep my factory rake when loaded.

While I like the look of a little bit of level, I think that eliminating the rake of truck limits it’s usefulness. And ruins handling when actually using it for towing. But really it keeps me from running 35” tires, which would kill my power, so I would need gears and a supercharger and a bigger gas tank and… and… and… such is the snowball. Ha.

After joining this forum I've really started to go down the route of adding more and more... maybe it was a bad idea to make an account lol.

my 6112's at the 3rd setting (nearly 3" of lift) are a better ride than stock IMO

Does anyone know if you can change the ride height while its still on the truck or do you need to take it all apart to raise/lower the spring?

Nope. You need to remove the strut assembly, compress the spring, remove the top hat assembly, move the circlip to the whatever new setting you want, then reassemble and reinstall.

I assumed so based off of the way the assembly looked but wasn't sure if someone found a secret way to finesse it lol

8” BAMuffler, TRD airflow accelerator, front window tint/windshield sun stripe, debadged tailgate 4x4 emblem, trimmed mud flaps, antenna removed stainless screw added, TRD rear sway bar, AFE high flow air filter.
I installed the 6112 shock assemblies on the lowest setting and picked up about 1” of lift up front, I still have about 1.5” of rake. I put 5100 shocks in the rear. The ride is much better compared to stock, less sway when turning. Here is a pic for reference comparing the two side by side.

I'd like to have the option later down the road to lift the front end If I so please. Plus I do believe a heavier duty front end is needed for my uses because of these terrible roads that I live on. Stock 4600s were way to soft for me when I did have them and 5100s have crossed my mind I just feel it'll be worth it in the long run to just spend the extra money and get 6112s. Anything is going to be better than the Monroe suspension I have currently.
