Anyone here use their soft topper to sleep out of? How does it do in terms of protecting you from the elements?
I don’t camp a ton but maybe a half dozen times a year, with some chillier spring and fall nights.

Always wanted a true hard shell, but it’s not in the budget, so thinking of picking up a soft topper for next couple years, love The foldable aspect so i don’t have to get a new MTB rack set up

i m thinking black will look a little cleaner than the mismatched tan on my quicksand, any fellow quicksand owners with a rec on color??

I was camping and sleeping in a summer tent, in like single digit weather. As long as you're protected from the wind, it's good. Hard shell won't give you much out of the box in terms of insulation.

You can always add a cheap diesel heater, it will keep you toasty.

considering the same, and for similar reasons. I'd never really priced hard shell caps until recently, and my GOSH are they expensive. Had no clue.

Wanting to do a softopper with an overland rack on top so I can mount an RTT on the rack for my wife and I, and then make a bed for the kids in the softopper. (think..weighing it as an option, anyway) hoping to hear some feedback as well.

A good ground tent, optionally with wood stove or diesel heater, will be better, cheaper, spacier, more convenient and versatile.

    Two suggestions:
    1. Get a bed rug to help make it more comfortable.
    2. Look into the tent that Softopper sells. It extends the length over the tailgate.

Oh it is different. You can put ground tent anywhere you want, add a stove or shade, leave for a few days as a base camp and discover places around without doing anything to the truck.

Had a Bestop on my Tacoma. Slept in the bed multiple times a year for half a dozen or more years. It started to leak in big storms toward the end. Probably seam sealer and new weatherstrip would’ve fixed that. Decent setup for a single guy though.
