Howdy all. First time poster here, great to meet everybody. Wanted to reach out and get opinions/ have a therapy session (ha) on my 2010 Tundra.

Bought it with 82K for about 20K cash here in TX in 2021 and thought i got a fairly good deal (have about 125K on it to date). I was proud to have purchased my first vehicle in life but its been a bit of a headache ever since.

Most recently, a local specialized shop (reputable from reviews) called out my timing cover having a pretty big leak. They cracked it open and noticed the cams have been leaking for a while as well which shows me the issue cleaned and left at the dealer i bought it from most likely. I know this is a huge job to complete but theyve had it for almost a month now with no estimate of a completion date...

I'm really starting to regret buying the tundra. I had my catalytic converters stolen the first 6 months I had it and then had to have the struts replaced and a charcoal canister all which have really negated the point of not having payments on a new vehicle.

Obviously the goal is to keep it after this point but my main questions is for those who have done the job for the cover and towers, does it really need to take a month to fix - even if the shop is busy? Feels like I'm getting a bit of a run around.

    Thanks.

I haven’t had this done but no engine work should take a month. Unless it was gushing oil or smoking on the exhaust - I’d have just run it.

sorry for the bad luck - but I wouldn’t blame the truck. Thieves suck, the charcoal canister is typically the result of user error continuously overfilling the fuel tank. 15 years and 125k miles is about all you can expect from a set of shocks.

Is it 4x4? If so make sure you’re using it every month or two to avoid actuators sticking.

Thanks for the reality check, no on the 4x4. They gave me a loaner at least so I have transportation.

I might be moving long distance soon so wanted to have peace of mind that the leak which was getting into the manifold and coolant vally didnt leave me stranded in a state with no transpo.

Fingers crossed it is back in my hands soon!

Best to go down and speak with them as it is a tough job. Possibly screwed something up, parts back ordered, and worst case senario ... something is leaking after it was all put back together.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! I hope the delay is something simple, like a back ordered part. Tundras in general are very reliable. You just found a learning opportunity.
