Maybe I should of known better, but these sliders rusted to hell pretty quick. Had them on for 18 months. I know the NE can be tough with the salt, but I expected the powder coat to last a little longer.

Any advice on sanding these down and painting them this spring? They look like shit -IMG_4415.jpg

Yeah once it warms up a bit more I’ll give it a quick scrape sand and spray. Any brand better than another?

Holy crap ! Are you sure that was powder coating?
If it were me I would try some kind of abrasive blasting to get all the paint off and repaint with a bed liner style coating

That’s what @Caliraisedled says. I tried telling them last year of the problem and they pretty much told me I’m out of luck as they don’t guarantee their powder coating.

Don’t bedliner sliders… it doesn’t work out well if you actually use them as sliders. @FrenchToasty

That's the result of powder coating raw steel. My local powder coater applies an epoxy primer to steel parts before powder coating. Powder coating is great until it chips and exposes the metal. With steel it starts rusting, spreads underneath and flakes the coating off. Best route is to remove, strip, epoxy or etching primer and choice of top coat.

Like the others have said that's what powder coat does. It's great until it isn't.

If it makes you feel better that's about what my NFab steps looked like after the same amount of time.

Just curious, is the coating and their lack of customer service your only issue?

Those are on my short list of options to replace my N-fab step. I'd order them raw and have them locally coated or DIY paint if I were to buy. These seem to be a good value and strong enough for my use.

This is why I have been looking at raw steel. I'd pull them off and wire wheel/flap wheel or send out to a sand blaster, self etch prime then bedliner or por15.

Some of the other vendors have had similar failures with powder coat.

We’re a dry heat, so I’m not pulling anything anytime soon. Some surface rust, but that builds character and room to open another thread!

I used Raptor liner. It’s thinner than the big dogs bed liner. That way when you use them it won’t peel, just scrape some off. Then you can rattle can the scrapes so they don’t rust. Not surprising to me that a company that sold something in California doesn’t do well in your neck of the woods. That’s a bummer.

Yeah they are solid sliders, but the powder coat failed within the first few months of the first winter then their customer service was non existent. Certainly wouldn’t buy anything from them again, plenty of other gear companies out there
