buying tires online or store

if u do ,. When you look at tire birth-date do u accept 6 months 1 year etc or do u only accept only new build date closer to when u buy them ???

 

Tires within 6 months, Wal-Mart is good on turning that old stock around and getting me fresh.

 

I only buy tires and wheels in a store. I want that relationship with a local store. Plus, most offer lifetime rotations and balancing so “free maintenance”.

I’ve honestly never looked at the date on the tires, but I always get mine at Discount Tire, so their inventory turns. I wouldn’t mind a year-old tire if I knew I’d burn through it in the next 4-5 years. But if you want a tire for a lower mileage rig, then newer is better.

 

Last 4 numbers on a tire vin are the build date of tire.
First two are week of year
Last two are year tire was made
Always try to buy tires as close to new as possible 6 months or newer. Yes I buy tires from tire rack and mount and balance them myself.
Most folks could care less or just don’t know how to read a tire. Your on the right track OP!

 

I always buy I store. As previously stated I prefer that face to face relationship and they typically offer warranties and such when have tires purchased/mounted/balanced at once.

 

I buy my tires and wheels from Discount Tire online.

Yup, Discount Tire screwed us for the last time with our last set of Michelins, refused to rotate saying we needed new tires! (Regular 10K mile rotations done, 40K miles into an 80K mile tire.)

We vote with our $$$ everyday of the week.

 

The Walmart by where I work has a better tire crew than the regional tire joint down the road. Last time I went to the regional place with a flat repair (off the vehicle) they told me it would be a 3.5 hour wait, they also screwed up the alignment on my truck and when I went back couldn't figure out the SPC arm adjustment even with the instructions.

 

I purchased online for the first time last year and saved a couple hundred dollars, installation was inexpensive and I have them rotated & balance every 4,000 miles or so. I prefer to deal with my local tire dealer, but I couldn't pass up this deal... the tires I purchased online were about 6 months old when I received them.

 

I buy on-line, usually tire rack, and have them installed at my local Toyota dealer. The dealer never complained about me having tires sent to them, their work is good and their prices are competitive for the installation. I have not looked at the dates on my car or truck tires. U use them up in less than 2 years on my car and three or four years on my truck.

I think the quality of service varies a lot from store to store so some dealers may not do the same quality work or have the same attitude about sending tires to them. My wife bought tires at my local Walmart once and they sold her the wrong load range tires for our 1 ton Chevy.

 

My last two sets have been purchased online by discount tire direct. Local tire shop has ridiculous prices. Manager told me one time discount tire selling tires below his cost this is online. I called bullshit on that, but when you live in a town full of billionaires they know they can get away with selling tires highly marked up. We have sensed moved to more of a realistic town, but still purchased through discount tire and saved a fair amount of money. Purchased some Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 for $630.00 after rebate.
