So I'm looking at a couple used 3rd gen Tundras at a couple different Toyota Dealers and I keep getting the answer that they won't move a dime off of their sticker price? Is this possible? I haven't bought a Truck in 9 years and the Tacoma I had in 2010 I found on a Ford Lot. I don't have a ton of buying experience but what I did buy I got a good deal on. The last two vehicles I bought in January and the dealers were eager to sell. Maybe it's the time of year? Is there really no negotiation room in used vehicles anymore?

Sounds like they're blowing smoke. Dealers make their most profits on used cars since they regularly under pay for them on trade ins. Unless your at Carmax theres always wiggle room, if not walk out and if they want to make a sale they'll call back.

Not sure where you are located but when I purchased mine I was actually looking around and actually was able to find a better deal purchasing new. Interest rate was much lower and I was able to negotiate about 4 grand off sticker and then add some add ons. Looking used the dealership would not come off the price but by just a grand. These trucks retain their value.

That's what I always thought. It's like selling something on craigslist, you start your price high and negotiate to where you really think it's worth.

These Dealers won't move off their price by even a dime! I'd feel like I was getting somewhere if they moved a grand. And then they tell you that they are already below the NADA Price. Thats when I say, "damn near every truck I see online is below the NADA value", and if the price was really that great they would have already sold it.

I have been shopping for a few weeks now with similar experiences to yours. They definitely retain their value. Seeing the prices and no haggling on these slightly used tundras are making me consider buying new.

Ever look on Vroom.com? Got my truck there. Fixed price. All range of model years, colors, and some already lifted or stock Tundras. They can finance or you can use own bank, they deliver all over the states for $499 and you have 5 days or X number of miles to return if you dont like it once its delivered.

16 crewmax barcallona red, sr5, 73k miles, firm on $28499. Decent condition, definitely not immaculate, fabric seats are dirty, and it has a big crack in the passenger side of the grill and surround. Accident of minor front end damage reported on car fax prior to the first 5k service at the dealer and it needed an alignment and tire balance. They quoted me $620 to fix the grill. I said i'll do it myself and offered 700 less of their asking price. They didn't take my offer and said they wouldn't come down at all.

I'm not gonna lie, the whole Vroom and Carvana idea makes me nervous! That's a big price tag on something that I don't get a test drive!

You do! You get 5 days or a certain mileage to send it back if you don't like it. Even have mechanic look at it...

They’re blowing smoke while yanking your chain.

Bought my used tundra for about 3k under sticker price. They kept throwing out they couldn’t go any lower.

If your wife is a good negotiator, bring her. Y’all can tag team the salesman.
I’m good with details and finding problems/cracks in people’s arguments and their paperwork, my wife’s good at talking people down. To this day, my favorite thing that came out of my wife’s mouth was (she was about to finish grad school at the time) “sir, I’m an almost-psychologist, I know when people are lying to me”
Took everything in me not to laugh, much less keep a stone cold face LOL

Don’t be afraid to walk out and pay attention to the paperwork they give you. Salesman tried to pass off some other truck’s paperwork as the one we were looking at. After I called him out on it, should’ve seen his face when I said “that one screw up just cost you 1k”

The other dealer I contacted had a 17 sr5 trd crewmax with 32k on it, silver sky metallic, $35,998. It's been on their lot since september and he wouldn't move off of his price at all.

For what dealers offer on trades they can sure as sh*t come down on price. They have so much room to work on used cars it's sickening. They'll also use the "look, this used one is pretty much the same price as a new one" tactic to get you to buy new, then they'll end up making a deal with someone else a week later on that used one. Dealers aren't stupid, but unfortunately they make most of their money off consumers who are.

28k doesn't sound too far off for a 2016 crewmax in decent shape as long as it is 4x4 with the 5.7 v8, but they should have at least replaced the broken grill and surround before they even put it on the lot. Definitely check it for the cam tower leaks.
Everything is negotiable, if they won't budge I would walk. You may be better off checking out new tundras. Depending on your budget and what you want for options it might work out better for you.

I did forget that it is a certified vehicle.

What is this cam tower leak you speak of? (I'll search it too)

The cam tower leak is an issue that develops on some of the 5.7 engines. I don't have any good pics of it, but you have to look at the engine from the wheel wells. If you search the forum there are multiple posts on it. It's a good thing to check first because it is an expensive repair. Even with a warranty you run the risk of them screwing up a decent engine if not done correctly.

If you are dead set on buying a used Tundra, trying getting one NOT from the Toyota dealer. I've found that you may get a slightly better deal. Toyota dealers are proud of their shit and will wait for the next guy to come along and overpay. The last 2 "used" vehicles i purchased in my life were both Toyotas and neither were purchased at a Toyota dealer.

My standard line when I negotiate with sales guys is...I dont HAVE to buy a truck, but YOU HAVE to sell one... That's the beauty of Capitalism..
I hand them my business card and tell them when they are ready to sell it to call.... you would be surprised how many calls I get before I'm a mile or so away.

Also you can think about negotiating extra / new set of tires or stuff like that into the deal. The No Negotiating comes from the Acct Dept.. they want to make the monthly #'s... I'm in sales and I just offer some consumable credit, or a few free parts.... but sales # stays the same...
They key is DON'T fall in love with it... there are more out there....

    Just my opinion......

My dealer had two used Tundras. I thought they were way over book on price so checked nada when I got home. They were right at retail. Resale value on these trucks is high. Convinced me to just buy new at 0% interest. Might be worth considering.
