My 2014 SR5 has a very basic sound system.. I have an IS350 with mark levinson system and the tundra speakers leave much to be desired to say the least. Just wondering what some options would be for improving the stereo on a budget. Do I replace head unit only? Do I replace speakers only? I’m not too familiar with quality sound system setups.. the wife’s rav4 has the jbl system and it pumps pretty good..

That they are. Lots of folks here are happy with his stuff. I’m getting one of his sub boxes installed next weekend.

What's the budget? There are people on here that can drop 2k on a "budget" sound system.

2k is a budget system if you do all new door speakers, sub, sub box, two amps, and wiring.

Exactly. Byt you can also get significant sound improvements for a few hundred. I was just saying it's important for OP to define "budget" if he wants answers applicable for his situation.

I upgraded by HU, all speakers, and added a small sub for under $600 and it was a 100% improvement for my 2007 Crewmax.

I was thinking under $1000 but I know you can deep down the rabbit hole quickly just like anything else lol just like any mod if it’s worth it I’ll usually do it.. I wouldn’t mind a bit more bass, better sound. Would a sub box intrude on the backseat quite a bit?

I’d order from Tech12volt his setups are perfect. Don’t spend a grand and end up replacing down the road just do that right the first time.

    1. Ultra budget
Run new speaker wires through the boot in the doors, videos on YouTube on how to do this, it is not hard

Silver flute 6.5 speakers in the door get from Madisound $70 a pair
    massive audio ct2 tweeters $80.
CDT audio ex-560 deluxe crossover $80

you will be hard to top this speaker setup for less than $230 a pair
Get a set for the front and a set for the rear doors.

CT sounds 800.5 amplifier 5 channel amp so you can upgrade with a sub later $199
Nvx xlca2 line out converter 59.99

$800 and will sound really good. the speakers above are crazy good for what they cost.

    2. budget use list from above
Add a blaupunkt 8 inch sub behind the seat $40 for the sub
build a basic box yourself. $50 in materials. There are a lot videos on how to build this
This sub likes around .75 cf in a ported enclosure. Someone posted a video of one in a suv flexing the roof with one, someone on car stereo forum hit over 140db with 2 tens.
Will one 8 in a tundra be loud. ,, no but it will give plenty for music enjoyment

3.Use above. Change out the headunit.
    Kenwood dmx709s $449

unless you are going to spend stupid money you will see very little gain from the list above

Trust me I know. My current setup and me doing most of the work myself is close to 5k
It sounds good sure, but speakers are a diminishing return. Can spend much more on the speakers and amp setups and get very little gain increase.

pm me if you have any questions.

    my current setup
    Jvc z1000w. $1250
    Amp 1. Sony Xmgs100. $278
    Amp 2. Sony xmgs4. $278
    Amp 2. Sony xmgs4. $278
    Stereo integrity tm65. $400
    Stereo integrity M3 carbon $280
    Stereo integrity m25 tweeters. $200
    Zapco dsp. $500
    Rockford fosgate 2 eights. $240
    Box I had built. $300

I spend over $1000 on stuff to install everything
Dash kits , idatalink, multiple fuse and distribution blocks, of citing to wire 3 amps
    Stinger 8000 rca cables
    Audiofrog mic for testing
    Etc,etc,etc,etc,etc ,
