My 2023 Tundra's passenger side tailgate hinge seems to be missing a clip or something that holds it on? Now if you open it part way and lift, it comes right off the hinge.

I'm not sure what came off my tailgate today as it rolled away into the street gutter, so if anyone has pics of what it's supposed to look like, please post. I was too busy holding my tailgate that came lose on one side.

The drivers side hinge has a plastic ring, while the passenger's side doesn't. This ring I believe I'm missing keeps the tailgate from being lifted off the hinge (I think). Can anyone confirm this? Seems like a shoddy hinge design at best. The truck has seen no heavy use, and it has less than 12k miles on it.

That gap is how you remove the tailgate. Every modern truck has that exact gap. This is why tailgate theft is so easy.

You can Google locking devices if you're concerned with it, some people even use a hose clamp. My last 15 or 20 pickups have been the same and it's never bothered me....

well at least on my platinum since the tailgate locks when the truck locks, gate theft is less of a concern now :)

even with an open bed, since the gate is locked you still cant open it.
