    Hello, I’m new to the forum and need help. I have a broken front coil spring…now here is the bigger problem. It’s on a pro comp adjustable coil over set up for my 6” lift. Pro Comp no longer makes them and their only suggestion is to go back to stock and add a coil spacer for the lift. As you likely know, the adjustable coil overs are NOT cheap and I’d hate to give them up because of one broken coil spring. I’m in Winnipeg, Manitoba and a spring shop and another performance shop either doesn’t handle coil overs or can’t get a replacement part, as I said, because pro comp stopped making them. I would really like to salvage my set-up. Can someone tell me where I can order (and what to order) a replacement spring (I know I may have to order two springs and re-adjust the coil overs accordingly). I just really want to salvage this set up. Any help is appreciated!

    Welcome to the forum! I would send an email to Procomp to see what the dimensions of the springs are, then you can purchase a new spring from a number of different places. Off the top of my head, I know that Accutune, Filthy Motorsports, and I believe SDHQ sell Eibach springs, which should be a direct replacement for your broken spring. Best of luck!

    I would first see if you don't need to replace the coilovers first anyway. Those spring preload threads are in pretty poor condition.

    Thanks a lot Brey and good point Colorado. I think they look worse in the pic than they are. Really just some minor surface rust and was clearly quite dirty when I snapped a quick pic. I’m thinking they are still okay but will look into with the shop prior to replacing.

    That is at rest but you can see where the spring is snapped right at the base of the spring at the bottom.

    Unfortunately, when I contacted pro-comp they couldn’t give me specs on the spring as they were apparently assembled off site somewhere else (contracted out I guess). My question is, what spring rate would be a reasonable one to compare to factory and/or give better performance without being significantly stiffer or softer. (I believe factory is about 475#) also considering it is a longer spring and I have a heavier front bumper. Spring is 13” right now with the weight of the truck on it. I have room to play with considering I can adjust the coil over accordingly up or down at least a few inches. So, my second question is, what length should I go with (thinking 16-18” as from what I understand the truck will compress the spring 25-30%…I know I could jack it up and see how long it is then but it may also be somewhat pre-loaded by the threaded coil-over). Any advice is appreciated…I bought the truck as is so don’t have a lot of background on the build.

    I would point you in the same direction as @B.Ross - the factory spring is a 700 lb/in spring; most aftermarket units come in around 650 lb/in if they have heavier valving/larger piston. If you go under 600 lbs/in, you are asking for trouble with a bumper and such up front.

    The 16" coil length is fairly standard. They START at 16" but when you load them on to a shock body, or install them on the truck, they are compressed to add preload. For example, say you have a 700 lb spring and the from of the truck weights 3500 lbs. If you started with an uncompressed pair of springs, they would compress 2.5" (3500lbs / 700 lb/in = 5 inches / two springs = 2.5"). If you compress them 1.5" to get them on the shock body and installed on the vehicle, they are preloaded 1050 lbs each, then they sag and additional inch measuring 13.5" as installed on the vehicle.

    That's all theoretical numbers but you see what I'm saying: the spring may be a 16" spring but measured on the vehicle it WON'T measure 16" unless you have some serious issues.

    Okay, so a 16” spring with 700#/in rating would be about where I’m at right now then within an 1” or less likely if I’m understanding you correctly? The ones B Ross had sent were only 12” springs so thought I should go longer like 16” or 18”.
    If ideal is 16” and 700# that’s what I’ll go with. If there is any advantage to go stiffer, shorter or longer than 16” 700# let me know. It’s mostly on road with some lighter off roading (hunting, ice fishing) so I’d lean towards on road vs off road manners.

    I will also note that I have hit and bent one of the taller (fabricated?) bump stops before so maybe 750# would be better?

    I was guessing.

    for reference; my 6" ProComp lift is fitted w/ RC Vertex coils.

    They measure 11 1/4 "compressed, stamp/etched 740lb and 3"I.d.

    If the coilovers collar was opened all the way it would measure 13 5/8" to the perch. Maybe a 14" compressed, doubtful :notsure:

    Mine are at 13” or a little better with the bottom of the spring being broken and the spring compressed. I’m running 37x13.5 tires and if anything, could use a little more lift in the front that’s why I was thinking a 16” spring with 700# rate. This would give me more spring travel but the nature of the adjustable coil over could just as easy crank it down more and go with a 14” I guess. I wouldn’t want to go too long I guess either but if a 16” would work I’d go that route. What happens if I end up having to “pre load” the spring more because of the length, in terms of ride and drivability? B.Ross, please don’t take anything I was saying as an insult or anything. I am very much an amateur here and am deferring to the members such as yourself for advice as I’m really not sure what I should be going with (Eibech has a million different lengths and spring rates to choose from even within the 3” ID that I need) and I have room to play around with the adjustability of the coil over.

    You can pull the good side shock, pull that coil off, and measure it to see what the free height, inner diameter, and out diameter are. Use a good coil compressor or take it to a shop and have them disassemble the shock for you. Theres a lot of spring energy in those coilovers. Could make for a bad day...

    Hey everyone…again. Here is my problem now. I’ve taken off the unbroken coilover/spring. My ID is 3.5” Eibach carries many different springs in 3” and 3.75” So, would either of these two ID work? I know the easy answers…get another standard strut/spring and put a spacer or spend big money and get new adjustable coil overs through Eibach at $1500-$2000 or more. Neither of these answers are what I’m looking for. I’d like to salvage my set up (money isn’t exactly growing in my backyard right now) if possible. That all said, what are my options in order to still use my adjustable coilover struts? Is there another maker doing 3.5” ID springs? Thanks again for the help.

    I've been told to call ADS suspension about custom/oddball coil springs. I don't know if they are actually the go-to place as I gave up chasing that rabbit hold on a project, but they might be able to help you out. Or get on the phone with Eibach or other spring manufacturers and see what they suggest. Make sure to have your measurements on hand (get a set of calipers and measure the coil wire thickness, gap between the coils at free height, total free height, and number of coils as well).

    Other option is to roll with some less expensive coil overs like 5100's for a while until you can build up funds.

    Well, looks like I’ll be swapping out the adjustable coil overs after all. Seems they are unserviceable (sealed unit?). Anyway, any suggestions (links are super welcome and appreciated!) to put in for a 6” front lift? Looking at something like this and am budget conscious at the moment.

    I'd question whoever told you they aren't serviceable. You can absolutely change the springs.
    Getting a spring that fits those may be an issue, I've never touched one so they may use a bastard size. I'm pretty sure Fox, Kings, Add's and most others use the same springs, just different colors.

    What you just posted is NOT what you have and would be a hard pass. Save your money and buy the correct coil overs.
