Both Brake lights out but bulbs and running light works fine…also been having an issue with the cruise control dash light flashing and having to turn it off and back on to engage it… I’m assuming they’re connected somehow. Is there a relatively simple fix?

Thanks so much @FirstGenVol i had something similar with a 2000 frontier many years ago and was thinking this would be similar. Any chance you have a pic of that switch? Easy to access and change out?

Check this post and then the one below it. It's an easy replacement but does require a little adjustment to make sure the switch works when you want it to. It will make more sense once you see it.

To touch on your suspicion about brakes/cruise control...

Yes, ABS and Cruise are linked. If you continue having issues after fixing the brake pedal switch, pop back in.

Keep an eye on things in case it keeps blowing the fuse.

Do the tail lights work, or is it only the brake lights out?

Start tracing wires. You may have a pinch on the harness that runs from the cab's fusebox, thru the floor, and along the driver side framerail, back to the junction where the framerail meets the brace.

Trace that wire loom to see if it's been chewed thru or been rubbing thru against frame or bed. I think there is only one wire loom front to back, it should be easy to test it.

If you have a hacked-in 4 pin trailer wiring, or anyone has added trailer wiring, or crimped ANYTHING at the rear of the truck along the bumper, it's suspect. Especially if they're the type of ignorant fool who uses scotchloks/quicktaps.

Drop the tailgate, on the passenger side remove the two driver-side bolts which are now exposed with the tailgate down and pop the tail light forward. Look for any hacks of the harness there. Check the bulb to make sure its a TWO FILAMENT bulb, not a single filament, maybe the person who changed them out is ignorant of the difference. Brake lights require 2-filament bulbs. Check the socket, sometimes pins will get tweaked.

If no joy, trace the tail light harness down to the bottom of the tail light pocket, along the bumper support/frame, where it goes to (I think a 6-wire) combo plug. Test for power there while the brake pedal is depressed and not depressed.

That's the best I can do you fer.
