My taillights work, but when I press the brakes the driver side tail light goes out. Passenger side works fine. I’ve changed the bulb several times. I’m assuming the fuse and brake light switch are for both brake lights so haven’t checked those. I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Have you traced the harness back?? Possibly a damaged wire, or corroded ground point which may interrupt the signal. I would suggest start there, if the passenger side works, odds are that fuses and relays are functional which may point to either the connector being damaged or a ground point down the harness somewhere.

Special tools? Depending on how young you are. You may need a creeper or some boxes on the ground.. additionally some eye protection and a wire brush. you will probably have to follow the bundle all the way down toward the cab and look for an exposed wires or even mounting point that may seem corroded...

Gotcha. Wasn’t sure if this was like multimeter territory or something.

that's after you searched and don't find anything, you can always start with that as well.. but it will most likely lead you down the path that you need to look through the wiring, unless someone has a better idea, then take that as a better suggestion..

Appears to be the socket. Hard to find a replacement online.

Is the socket damaged?? junkyard?? I'm sure its similar to other Toyota models, snap a pic and compare it to similar ones at the yards...
