Boy am I glad I kept my 21 and NOT buy the 22 Tundra

Couldn't sleep so I watched alot of videos on the 22 Tundra.

Wastegate issues requiring engine removal or truck taken off frame.
    Turning radius issues
Bed smaller than 21, no step up on bumper
    Interior dimensions smaller
Already seen on used car lots
    Padded pricing

As it was on You Tube I can't attest to what is actually true or not but I have had 0 issues with my 21 and loving the ride. I know there are always issues with 1st year models but they spent over 3-4 years re designing this thing.

Did you check if your 21 is affected by the power steering recall?

Give it time kinks will get worked out. I'm sure there are plenty of 22 owners out there that love their trucks too. It's all anecdotal. I'm not fond of the design but that Pic floating around with the c4 bumper and bigger wheels changed my mind. Don't forget the 2nd Gen was in production for what 13 years? That's a long time to be working out issues. And we still have some issues too (cam seals, headlight recall, Powe steering etc)

This, I know I'm not the first one to say it but I'd be upset especially after seeing the front end on the 23 sequoia-its a huge improvement over the 22 tundra.

For those commenting it looks good w/ the c4 bumper, I think you'd be hard pressed to find any truck that didn't look cool after getting a offroad bumper/lift/beefy tires...It's just like when the first images came out and people photoshopped with bigger tires/bumper etc. Of course it looks better w/ all that added, the issue is with how toyota designed it originally.

toyotas design language in their whole range is gross. The new sequoia is way better than the tundra I agree and I'd be pissed too. But I got a 21 to avoid the new gross ones.

I agree. Have you seen the new sequoia? That front end looks 1000x better on the sequoia than the tundra for some reason

The thing I like about Toyota was that their suvs and trucks had more ground clearance from the factory than the other brands. The new tundra though is now two inches lower to the ground than the previous generation. It just doesn’t look right.

The Sequoia looks good because it’s an SUV and that’s a good look for an SUV. That’s the new Tundra’s main problem in the looks department; it looks like an SUV. It looks like a retarded, overblown, half-assed Ridgeline. That said, it may grow on me. The 2nd gen did.

I have have not been impressed at all since it was introduced. However, I was not going to comment until I saw one in person. Well, I saw one and all I can say is, I will be holding on to my ‘18 for a while then passing it on to my son.I can honestly say, I like nothing about the new generation.

Its funny how some people absolutely hate change.I guess thats why all have choices. I did have a chance to test drive a 22 and the inside did appear. and. feel smaller than my 16. Im a small person so it doesn't bother me. as far as the problems thats. what the warranty. is for.Im sure Toyota. will stand. by their product. OP glad. you like your 21 its a great truck, but for myself after 2 generation. 3s which I loved I'm ready for a change.

Me neither. I would rather have a power steering issue than a turbo problem in a brand new vehicle.

The only vehicle my wife ever called ugly was a 22 tundra. She hates even talking about vehicles. Once it passed us, and she saw the rear end, she said "what an ugly truck" lol I told her aren't you glad I got a 21 model.

The rear end of the new truck is the ugliest part to me. It’s hideous.

I always thought the 2.5 gen was exactly how an American built "foreign" truck should look.

LOL my gf is the same I could probably send her into oreillys for blinker fluid, first thing she said is “it looks like a Chevy”

We even saw one out on the road the other day so that whole “once you see it in person you’ll change your mind”, nope not even a little.

I think once you swap all the bumpers and do some other mods, they'll look fine. But still no 2.5 gen.

Agree with all, the looks are terrible, front end is horrible and the rest looks like a GMC. However the interior is pretty hot. I'm still not sold on the power train, from what I'm seen the numbers on mileage aren't that much better then the V8. I know the turbos are fun but I'd go for the rock solid reliability of the V8 any day. I just got the email on the Sequoia and if the price is right I might consider trading in my 4Runner but I doubt it.

The best vehicles in my life have a Toyota UZ v8 engine. The power and reliability is unmatched. Don’t get me wrong, if the E39 BMW v8 was reliable that would be the best. It really comes down to reliability tho.

Would have much preferred a 2022 a Tundra with,
    - v8 turbo/sc
    - recaro seats
    - aux trans cooler added back
    - solar trickle charger integrated into the hood
    - after market stereo instead of the POS entune
    - no charge app access
    - top notch undercoating from the factory

You get the point. Change is inevitable but not all change is good, it’s usually and ultimately self serving for someone or some special interest.

The first year kinks will be dealt with but it’s still not in the UZ v8 family.

This engine has been used in the Lexus for awhile. I would have hoped the issues would have been worked out.

I do think there's a significant chunk of gen 2.5 owners that are jealous at the power, interior, etc, and want to run down the gen 3s constantly due to it. But not all of us.

We don't need more threads on how ugly they are or anything else.

Yeah they want it to fail at least at some level to preserve their older gen’s resale value. But no previous generation of any Toyota truck has ever tanked in resale value when an updated generation was released by Toyota, even when the new one is substantially more fuel efficient or powerful. That said, the 2.5 gen’s resale will probably never be as high as it is now during WasteGate.

we must also realize that that same engine never ever had to use those major torque numbers like the new Tundra will ask it to.

TT6 will not be a 1 million mile mill.

I think the 22 is the best truck Toyota has made. It’s going make me hang on to my 17 and finally keep a vehicle for a long period of time.

I am glad I got my '21 when I did. Long live my new truck designed in 2007. She is big and sexy with a super smooth V8 and lovely low RPM torque.
