Seeing Boomers Dealership experience thread, I figured I'd share mine.

I got my Tundra last week and it was one of the easiest car buying experiences I have ever had. We talked price for about 10 minutes until they dropped it below any comparable I could find within 200 miles. They offered a fair price for my trade. I had them put it all on paper and told them I would be back in touch. I went home researched and called them about an hour later asking for a little bump on my trade which they did over the phone. Signed the next day.

A couple of days before I got mine we went to another lot to see a 4-runner for my wife. The sticker hanging from the rearview was $8000 over the internet price. When I asked the price, the sales guy said he could probably get it down a little bit but it was worth what they were asking. Then I showed him the internet price.
It went downhill from there. They said they wouldn't budge on the price and offered her well below the mark for her trade in. They hit her with the "what payment do you want" line and she answered. It was pretty much over after that. He said he could do that. I told him there was no way he could do that with these numbers. Math works the same for all of us.

She agreed to let him try. I told him we were hungry and asked for the keys back so we could grab a bite while he worked on it. When we returned he said finance was ready for us.
We walked in and of course, it was $80 over the payment she had mentioned. I shook his hand and said no thanks. He said he would be right back and we were out the door. Before we got off the lot the sales manager was calling. Total steamroll from the time we walked onto the lot.

We ended up going back to the same lot 3 days later when she settled on a Highlander. I was ready for round two and we ended up with the same sales guy. Knowing we would walk made them much more willing to deal. I used a comparable at their other lot as our starting point and negotiated from there.
I told them what we wanted for the trade and what we would pay for theirs and dug in.

A couple of times I told them "Thanks for trying but it looks like we can't get there" each time the price would go down or the trade value would go up. In the end, I think they just wanted us to leave.
We got $500 more than our original asking for the trade ($3000 over their first offer) $3000 off the starting point we agreed on She got the rate she wanted and the payment fit where she wanted. Math still works.

I know they still made money but it felt good to make them work for it.

It was petty of me but when we first pulled on the lot the sales guy came out. When I saw him I drove slowly to the opposite side of their huge lot pretending not to see him. His long walk in 100+ degrees made me feel better.
