2018 Tundra Ltd -- first question, what is the mysterious rigid jacketed brake line looking thing indicated by the arrow here? It only appears on the rear two wheels, not on the fronts, and doesn't seem to be the actual brake lines (which are behind it, going into the caliper). A mystery! To me, at least.

Aaaand second, can anyone hypothesize as to why BOTH of these mystery lines on the left and right are fraying in exactly the same place? Is someone trying to kill me? The driver side one just has some rubbing marks on it, the passenger size one has the rubberized jacket frayed open and is exposing what appears to be a harder line inside as best I can tell (I didn't want to mess with it until I understood it better).

The rubbing is only on the exterior face of these mystery lines, and the only thing this could have been touching are the leaf springs, but that's a bit of a stretch as they are not really very close. With that said, I recently upgraded my leaf pack, because my camper shell and gear in back (about 1000 pounds) was causing it to ride the bumpstops quite frequently, so this is the only thing I can think would cause this problem.

Those are your parking brake cables. Your photo labels are reversed as well, was trying to figure out why your gas tank was on the passenger’s side. LOL.

Looks like they are rubbing on the leaf packs as the suspension cycles. Those stand-off brackets can either be repositioned or bent for some clearance. I’d recommend replacing the one worn through the sheath before it seizes up.

Oh you're right, I got the photos reversed! That's relieving that nobody is trying to kill me. Except maybe my old leaf pack. I got a 20k mile tuneup coming up, I'll see if they can't replace the one that was frayed open (I live in a wet, snowy, salty climate and that shit will seize up in half a winter!) and then just bend 'em out a bit. Thank you for your expertise!
