2019 Tundra -- I have always had trouble with this truck and the iPhone bluetooth. Mainly I can't find a way to set a default phone, as I have 2 kids and a husband and it ALWAYS connects to someone else's phone before it connects to mine, except I have noticed it does that for music, but the actual phone connection does pick my phone... but here lately and it doesn't matter if it is IOS 14, 14.8 or 15 beta, 15.0, or 15.1.... while talking on the phone the truck with say call ended on the screen. and basically act like the call has hung up but the cell phone still has the call active. and when I go to bluetooth on the phone says it is still connected... when I go to settings on the the truck it shows connected to my phone for music but not for phone, if I click that it usually always fails and I have to turn it off to make it reconnect... all while on the call and driving... very sad and annoying... its multiple phones too... iPhone 11 and a 12 then I lost that phone and got a second different 12... same stuff happens, so it has to be the truck.... Any ideas ? or can anyone sympathize ?? haha

Welcome to the forum . From what I've been reading on here it sounds like you might need an after market head unit .

Unfortunately not just a headset. Picture the whole radio, screen etc. Can you make it Mom's rule that everyone else turns off bluetooth when you are driving?

I've unpaired all phones, I've paired mine first and then theirs get added back in occasionaly and the above still happens... doesn't matter if my phone is listed first. we have even tried keeping my phone the only one paired, doesn't last long because my oldest drives it at times so it gets re paired... never matters...

I have the same issue. I have paired, unpaired, reset, etc. I cannot identify exactly when this started happening. I believe this is an issue with Apple iOS. I’m not an expert on anything, so don’t quote me on this. Just my opinion.

I have both Android and I phones connected to my head unit and the only ones that don't auto connect are the i phones. I have to manually connect them. You can always use the USB port which has better sound and not connection issues.

As much as I'm sorry everyone else has this problem, at least I now know I am not the only one. I have un paired and repaired several time with no fixing the problem. Has anyone asked Toyota Corp about this?

I haven’t. Wouldn’t have a clue how to get in contact with them. I asked at the dealership awhile back and it was some stupid something answer so I left that alone…

I tried a lot of different suggestion solutions such as deleting and repairing my iPhone, deleting all other Bluetooth devices, etc. Then I found this YouTube video which essentially just said to try a soft reset. It worked! I have had no Bluetooth connectivity issues for a month now.

I don't have a push button, I have a regular ignition. I also have never had the option for phone and bluetooth grayed out like that. it just "loses the connection" while talking on the phone...

I don’t have those either. That’s a 4Runner in the video. I just used it to learn how to soft reset by just holding the power button.

How do you soft reset without a push button?

You are just holding the power button on the radio until the unit restarts itself. Your truck needs to already be on to begin with (or at least the key in the ignition and partially turned so the radio turns on to begin with).

Just holding that I have done 100 times to restart it when it does the thing... I did find a YouTube video to show how to do that to the special menu for the init without the push button start -- I will try that later and report back and add the video if it works... I did also check to see if Toyota has issues any new software to download, but they haven't at least for the 2019 tundra...

I have had intermittent issues connecting and just figured it was my Samsung Note 10+ as I have dropped it more than once and I was having problems BT connecting to my external speaker (drops conn). I read that stock head units can largely be responsible.

Nevertheless, I got a new android phone and so far so good. Incidentally, the stock radio in the Sequoia has never had an issue...

it has happened to me with 3 different iPhone devices, 3 different operating systems. my guess is going with the stock head or Toyota software as neither of those have changed... I did find this thing I am going to try to do an init on the tundra head system other than just power cycling it... ill post back

ok so, if you hold the apps button down and turn the light stitch on and off three or 4 times, it goes into this mode and offers INIT as an option, I did that and was able to talk on the phone nonstop for 20 mins and then later in the evening for 27 mins without the tundra radio losing its connection to the phone. I still don't know if its cleared the default connect to my phone first thing or not as it is the only one connected right now... so well will see on that -- ill update more as I find out more...upload_2022-2-22_0-15-11.jpg

This is the biggest reason I got so fed up with the Factory Toyota Entunes head unit and pulled the trigger on the New Sony xav-9500es.
    My phone, Samsung S21 Ultra.

While making phone calls at random points in time usually around 5 mins in it would disconnect bluetooth, drop the call then reboot. But Bluetooth music would be just fine no issues. Only during phone calls.

My wife has a 21 Sequoia and had the S21 Ultra, we fought and fought with the Toyota, Samsung, and Verizon over this issue. All of them pointing their fingers at one another. Toyota dealer said they can not duplicate in either vehicle, even provided video proof of issue from both trucks. Wife went through 4 different S21 Ultras from Samsung and Verizon. Toyota replaced (so they say) the head unit. The head unit still had her map history and saved destinations. She ended up down grading to the Note 20 and has been better since but does it every now and then.

A local Tundra Facebook page I'm on, a couple of the people in the group have experienced the same things with the Note 20, S21s and iPhone 13s. Come to find out the new Bluetooth protocols were implemented in these phones and the outdated factory headunits have issues with that.

So it was either a $1600 new phone or $1600 set up. Oh and Bluetooth in my daughter's '21 Highlander works just fine with the same phones so...
This is a Toyota issue not keeping up with S/w I ended up Purchasing the Sony xav9500es. See that thread for more info on that unit.

My 2 cents is replace your head unit. They're trash.20220223_142025.jpg
