    Here is my system:
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/brakedusts-kenwood-dmx1057xr-tech12volts-audio-overhaul.87362/

Front speakers are Hertz K165. They have been ok, had no plans to upgrade. But one day I was sitting in my truck about to park and I put up my sun shade - the edge of the shade caught my volume dial just so and spun it to Full Max! (I almost crapped my pants)

Anyway I think the driver's side speakers are damaged, sounds like rattling rocks when certain pieces play. Ugh.

Thinking of stepping up from the K165 to something else. Budget $300. Crutchfield only somewhat helpful since it says the K165 "wont' fit" my vehicle. Hoping to find a set with better crossovers than the K165 (looks like just an inline capacitor.) I really love great bass guitar so the speakers must excel in the 100-200 Hz range.

Will buy brand new sail panels for the tweeters.

    Thanks!

eBay speakers are risky. I remember buying some JL Audio speakers and had one tweeter that kept losing sound. Thought I was saving money but just got more frustrated with the system cutting in and out with the highs.

I have some focals I just picked up at a storage site sale for $100 for 2 in a custom sealed box. Only problem is the box is meant for a Tesla not a tundra. You could pull out and put in the rears.

it can be. Just have to be cautious and look at the seller to see whether they are reputable. Because even crutchfield sells open/box and scratch/dent items in ebay. So, if the seller is reputable they will stand behind their product.

Huh - speaker may be fine! I could not induce the rattling sound today. Perhaps it was just a water bottle in the door resonating with a certain frequency?

Anyway, I'm getting an upgrade now! Looking forward to it. (The old speakers won't be wasted, will gift them to my younger son for his 4runner)

Found a song that caused the rattle - "Another one bites the dust." Definitely something was wrong.

    Anyway, new speakers sounds great!
