IMG_1551.jpg black soot around the whole backend of the truck from the exhaust. no codes runs fine, starts normal. dealer looked at it and tested for alcohol levels in the fuel. 11%-12%. this all started after the sensor for parking was replaced. drive to the dealer is 90 miles. filled the tank with 87 from the holiday station. black soot was still there but a little less. washed the truck the next day and black soot is still there but not as bad. I only drove 12 miles after the wash. this morning I have the soot on the bumper and quarter panel 3 mile drive to work.

Is it on the other side of the truck behind the wheel? If it was running rich enough to leave a film in 12 miles you could smell it.

there is a slight film on the quarter panel, bumper and tail gate. I is less than what is was on the first trip of 90miles. I can not smell it it is winter here. I cant even pick up smell when it sits at idle.

when I drove it off the lot is was clean after the 90mile drive. not a normal thing for black soot to cover the back end of the truck. the other tundra's I have owned never had this happen. 5.7 and 4.7 motors.

My truck does this too. The bumper is chrome and it looks permanently stained. As for the paint next to it, MGM hides everything so no one will know. I think it's from the swirling air behind the tire/mudflap letting it get up there.

Ethanol doesn't cause it although it might move it from inside the pipe out to the flat surfaces. Ethanol burns very cleanly and the extra water it creates in combustion steam cleans the crap out of everything, especially if it's E85. Heck when running E85 the massive fog cloud coming out of the tailpipe on a cool morning probably transfers the soot to everyone else's cars too

Mine did that too, left a hard to remove residue on the paint film guard. I just loosened the exhaust tip and moved it so it sticks further out away from the bed. Haven't noticed it since.

They probably unhooked the battery while they we’re working on it. Now the truck is relearning fuel trim and advance tables, I’d drive it for a couple hundred miles and see if it clears up.

Mine started doing this too. Only since it has gotten cold here. There was also a lot of condensation on the bumper end and bottom of fender.

Maybe the soot is from colder weather and the condensation makes it stick.

It appears to be back to normal. The day the sensor was replaced was the worst. The soot slowly disappeared and now the only thing on the truck is condensation from the exhaust. I asked the service department if the battery was disconnected during the sensor replacement, no one knew. I suppose I could disconnect the battery and see if it happens again. Not really to keen on that right now but it may be worth knowing the engine may have that tendency.

Had the same issue on my tundra . Super noticeable on white paint. This was my solution to the issue . Cut the tail pipe back and add a cheap stainless tip . IMG_20200320_181337.jpg
