    Hi Gang,

Picked up my new to me 01 Tundra Limited AC 4x4 a few weeks back. Finally took some time to check on a few issues. Looks like my rear passenger shock is leaking slightly. I picked up the truck with 5100s all around. I’ve seen a few other members mention that theirs also saw some seepage and that they mentioned in their post that bilstein also says this is normal. Should I be concerned and just replace them? If so what other options are comparable? I see a lot on here run OME and being a complete noob at suspension what can I expect in terms of performance over the Bilsteins? Is it possible to rebuild the shock? Should I replace just the one? Any advice is appreciated.

Also.. Do shocks and suspension affect road noise? I noticed that whenever I’m going 80 I hear significant road noise, granted I have MT tires but it just seems to increase at 80+. Cruising at 70 it sounds normal and the road noise drops.

Mt tires cause lots of noise. Tire balance, un even tread wear can Make it worse

i would not replace just one shock. Do both front or back if you ever replace so the handling is even.

as far as seepage, I wouldn’t worry until the shock no longer functions properly. A worn shock will bounce like an old Cadillac rather than keep a vehicle steady

Bet yea the seepage doesn’t look too too bad. I didn’t even notice until I took the truck into Toyota for an oil change and they came back and told me my rear shock was busted and needed to be replaced...honestly it drives fine other than the mentioned road noise and I wouldn’t have noticed if they had not brought it up. I’ll probably ride them til they die if that’s the case. Thanks for the advice!
