I really like the idea of this to help out my sissy knees (thanks HS & collegiate sports, Army) but $400 seems kind of pricey for something I would use only on occasion (the benefit of the pad on my knees is what I'm seeking - the cup holders are nice for nuts, bolts, and beers, but not entirely necessary..)

So like the title says, anybody know of any alternatives? I'd be pretty convinced at a $200-$250 price point. My searches have yielded that BB is the only game in town. I'm half tempted to remove the brutal plastic and drill my own cup holders, and get some sea-dek padding which could probably be done for the price range I'm hoping for.

Cool idea, I've only seen the plastic style ones for use as a table/cutting board with shallow cup holders.

SeaDek would work, I know you can buy it in sheets. But i would think you'd want something flat under it or it would be an uneven surface.

Yeah that's a good point. Would need something flat to go across.

I've got the Billie Bar tailgate. Well worth the money. At least for me. I use it all time. Easy on the knees. Handmade. I met the owners at the last Overland Expo here in CO. My new Frontier didn't come with the plastic tailgate cover.

not necessarily. it just velcros to the tailgate, so, super easy to take on/off if you need. or just hose it off when it gets dirty.

I did the bedrug on the tailgate as well when I had Line-X installed (did not want to Line-X the tailgate). The bedrug is excellent, easy on my old knees (74 here) when climbing in and out. Only minor complaint is the Velcro pads don't stick to the metal tailgate surfacr very well, I had to super-glue several of them on. No worries, though - I like it.

You might look at the Gator rubber mat at Real Truck. It's 3/8 thick rubber custom fit for the Tundra, $66.
