Bigger tires ... will towing impact rubbing?

Hey folks! So I’m getting new wheels/tires this week on my 2019 Platinum Tundra. Going from the stock 275/55/R20 to 285/65/R18 with KO2’s. I know there is potential for a little rubbing and the shop may have to trim some. My question is in regards to towing... will that cause even more rubbing once a trailer is hooked up? Do I need a leveling kit?

For towing, I’m getting a Cargo hauler (12-16’ max) for our move to Alaska. After that, i’ll Only need for trailer a side x side.

Note: I don’t want a lift. Leveling is most I’d consider.

    Thanks for your perspective!

Moving to AK? Cool. FYI..make sure you have good mud flap coverage when towing that trailer "up". Once you get to Haines Junction, Yukon Territory and head north, the Alcan Highway is still paved but there are a few long iffy stretches of gravel on up to Beaver Creek to the AK border and that pesky gravel will fly up and frack up things. By the way stop and enjoy Lake Kluane.. views are crazy...been there myself.

Oh yikes! Yeah I’ll have to look into that. My wife will be traveling behind too so don’t won’t something popping up and hitting her car. We plan to make it into a mini vaca ... figuring a week or so of travel. Appreciate the insight! We are really excited to go there. Sad to leave Utah (absolutely beautiful here ... minus inversion). Pic I just took off my front porch, hard to beat this!

Another FYI.......there are a few stretches of the Alcan Highway that the permafrost pushes up the pavement unevenly and turns it into a roller coaster. Literally. When you see the warning signs...slow down. ..don't ask...heh...heh..

I doubt it would rub more while towing as all the weight will be on the rear. Throw a leveling kit on there and it will look like the rear bumper is dragging while towing

The factory rake is to compensate for towing. That tire size isn’t much bigger than stock. If you are worried, you could get airbags. It would be cheaper than a level kit + install.

Nice porch view but you will be seeing views that will make you speechless. I don't know how many times I pulled over just to take a gander at things going up. ....another FYI.......once you get far north.....top off your tank whenever you can....don't ask...heh...heh...
I drove up in November of 2011. A lot of the places I planned to get gas closed for the tourist season in September. Dang it...heh...heh..minor detail. Oh....Watson Lake and Munchin Lake not bad at all. BC is quite beautiful on the way up too. Crazy beautiful.

If you have dogs... take them to the vet for an official check up. Tell the vet your driving up to AK. Not a Canadian requirement...a US port of entry requirement when entering US/AK border. Did they ask for my dog's papers???? Hell no but do it anyways.

Thanks for the comments on rake and bumper dragging. I’m new to the towing game, so was just worried I’d be jacking up my truck and then taking a long drive! Appreciate the insight, makes sense. I’m going to just do wheels/tires for now and same some cash ... already got approval for that purchase going back to the wife pew not sure that’s a smart move lmao!

Awesome info! Yeah I plan to top off before any long stretches and will also get a gas can to bring as well. We will be traveling in June so everything should be open. The dog is the reason for driving, otherwise I’d be flying! 51-hrs (not including breaks) is a long ways with a 6 & 3 year old. But it should be a blast. One concern I have is figuring out lodging. Part of me wants to book in advance to have reservations. The other half just doesn’t want to be constrained by reservations. I was told there’s about a 12-hour stretch that is between two “larger” towns and if we can handle that portion we will be good to go. Otherwise one day would only be a 6 hour ride.

Ft Nelson to Watson Lake is the iffy stretch, but you should have no problems the time of year you are driving up. Correction to previous post...Muncho Lake... Check out Teslin. Watch out for elk crossing the road at night.. dont't ask...heh...heh..WhiteHorse was a great stay over twice for me. There is a bridge over the Yukon River before hitting town. You can easily drive down below the bridge next to the river with a trailer and hang out for awhile. The mounties won't bother you. Muncho Lake has a Canadian "state" park but no doubt reservations required. Kluane Lake has some great RV camping. Check out Destruction Bay... Teslin Lake is fed by the Yukon. Great RV spots too. Lots of Canadian tourist camping info online to take advantage of. I literally have a photographic image in my brain. Hard not to. I don't smoke pot...heh..heh.
