    Hey everyone,

I have a 05 4.7 that sat for 3 years with about an 1/8 tank of gas. Was going to add a bottle of BG44k to the gas tank and either fill it to half or top off the tank. I would like to do a full fluid flush after running this product.

Stupid question, should I drain my fluids…. Engine oil, etc after I burn up the gas mixed with the BG entirely? If that’s the case it may take me a while to burn that fuel up as there’s more work that needs to be done to the truck before I feel good about driving it for many miles or long highway driving. I’m hesitant on filling the tank completely full due to not knowing how long it will take me to burn it all off. I was going to grab 3 gallons of premium and bring it home in my rotopax. Dump the BG in my tank, put the 3 gallons in and drive to the gas station that’s about 3 miles from my house and fill to half or top off.

I’ve read so many things on making sure you put enough gas in the tank to dilute the BG, but I’m curious on others input here. And the best way to use this product.

    thanks,

Usually products like that will tell you on the package how far to dilute them for normal function. 44K is a concentrat, and I think they say not to exceed 1oz/gal, and with lower quantities aim for 1/2 to 2/3oz per gal? But read the bottle, don't trust me.

If you want to see how bad the gas has gotten, and whether you want to risk running it through your engine, siphon some out into ball jar/old mayo jar/some other jar. If it's seen a lot of hot/cold cycles, it'll probably be dark, and if it's gelatin, well ... If you have a hand-pump for pumping fluids in/out, those are handy in cases like this. That pump-out should tell you what you want to know. If what comes out looks like a month-old trucker's piss bottle on the side of the road (i.e. like orange juice), maybe you should siphon the majority of the rest out.

    If it were me?

I'd go to the gas station with a 5gal can and fill it up with premium gas, add 3-5 oz of 44K, since that's what you've chosen. I always have a bottle of ISO-HEET (the red+yellow bottle, specifically) on-hand for my mowers and trimmers, to break down any water in the gas, and I'd add 2oz of that into the 5gal too, just in case there is some water in the old gas (not that there's a carb here to get water blockage, but ...)

I'd also have a can of throttle body cleaner, and MAF cleaner on-hand, and before I got started with the gas, I'd pull the negative battery cable, clean the MAF and let it come back to ambient temp (the cleaner will leave it cold and condensating water), clean the throttle body thoroughly with a cleaner-soaked rag (never spray cleaner directly into anything).

Then I'd siphon out (whatever I could get easily) from the tank to reduce the qty of bad gas in there. Then dump the treated 5gal, and fire it up, wedge something between the gas pedal and seat so the RPM sets around 1,500 - 1,800 and let it idle-run for 10min.

Removing the battery cable for that 10-20min or more will force the truck into relearn mode to adjust to the freshened EFI inputs (clean MAF + clean TB + treated gas). Running at higher RPM constant should help keep a consistently high flow/pressure of treated fuel thru the injectors, and de-sludge/de-crud any buildup.

I'd probably follow-up with a Seafoam top-end cleaning, they have a specific product for that.

But again, I wouldn't be doing any of this without inspecting the timing belt first, visually, to look for obvious signs of risk. Not that it'll rule out anything, but if you see the belt is in piss-poor shape, you know to address that first. If you haven't already.

Followed the instructions on the BG and I added a full 11oz and added 16 gallons of fresh gas. Had about 7 gallons in the tank. A full 11oz required adding a total of 20gallons.

Drove the truck for about 9 miles through the canyon and the truck runs amazing. Idles perfect as well.

    Thank you!!

Gas is cheap. A whole tank is around the cost of a half decent meal for two. An 1/8 of a tank is not even a decent sandwich. So, what 'Shifty said.

As much as I agree, and would’ve preferred to take the old gas out. I live in the mountains, no place around to get a pump
To pull the gas ….. I decided to just add too. I could’ve ordered one on Amazon but didn’t feel like driving to my PO Box to pick
It up in a day or two.
