Before anyone crucifies me.. I don't post here often and have limited experience mechanically. My son will help me with the install. I have tried doing a search and have found a few threads about brakes but need some opinions. I have '20 TRD Sport DC with new Michelin Defender LTX 275/60/20 tires. (the OEM tires only lasted 25K miles) Half of my 30K miles are towing a 6000# travel trailer. I have noticed some pulsing from the front brakes and want to replace rotors/pads fairly soon. My trailer has two 3500# axles and electric brakes. What are some options for my truck since it basically is used for my trailer. I don't do any mountain driving as I'm in the NE but have had to lock 'em up a few times due to asshat drivers. Brake controller set to 7. We do have salted roads(ugh) and I want to avoid as much brake dust as possible. Any help appreciated![IMG]

You will get lots of suggestions. There are many great pads, but considering you want low dust and good performance I would suggest akebono performance pads.

For rotors, Cryo treated if possible, but they generally cost about 2x as non Cryo treated. Centric and Stoptech have some as well as @dirtydeeds. The cryo rotors seem to be on backorder everywhere but Dirtydeeds did have some last I checked.

If you cant find cryo treated rotors (may be a 2+ month wait) then the non cryo rotors from Centric, Stoptech, Bremo, EBC are good quality or just get some new stock rotors.

Lastly, there are MANY threads about brakes and rotors and improving from stock braking. Search in upper right "brake rotor" and you will get pages of threads with a lot of good information.

Have you had your trailer brakes serviced recently at all? Are you engaging the trailer brakes manually from the trailer controller to make sure your gain is set correctly? In the truck settings, there are multiple trailer brake settings, one for electric brakes from 0-4,999 lbs and another for 5,000+. Is the right one selected?

The reason I ask is if everything is setup correctly, your trailer should be stopping itself and the truck won't be seeing much extra braking force. I tow 8k lbs regularly and between trailer brakes and engine braking, I've never felt that the oem brakes are inadequate.

    Nice trailer…:spending:..haha….cha-Ching
I changed my out to a big brake package.. -PowerBrake- but, I won’t recommend it because The limited supply of pads and cost…

Others on here will have better recommendations… Try a Brake/Rotors search… I highly recommend changing them out though.. makes a big difference…
    Good luck and safe travels

Everything is set up correctly for the weight of the trailer. I just recently changed out the bearings/races on the trailer (myself) with Timken USA made parts. While apart, the brakes were adjusted and are working as they should.

I switched to stoptech cryo slotted rotors and ebc yellow pads and they have been the best brakes I’ve had. They just started squealing after a year and over 10k miles though. I haven’t had time to fix it yet and I’ve heard of ebc squealing from other posts.

Limited mechanical experience, but you did bearings and races and adjusted the trailer brakes? You have more knowledge than you think . BRAVO

the stock Toyota brake controller isn't the best. I tow a 6Klb boat and I stop better pulling the boat since the trailer brakes are so efficient.

I watched a lot of youtube videos :) and tend to know more about trailers than engines...

I'm sure you could do the truck's brakes without trouble. Let us know how it works out.

I done well with factory Toyota rotors & I tow a 7k camper about 5k every summer. So, yes brakes are important to me & my family. Whatever rotors you buy, just make sure they are not made in China.

    Love the Oliver!

I was in the exact same situation as you. OEM rotors were badly warped/uneven at 27k miles. So bad that when we would be towing our 6k lb trailer it make the loose change in the truck rattle. Not a good towing experience.
I did a bunch of research and was reading about Cryo Treateted rotors and sounds like they really hold up well. I opted to go with Frozen Rotors slotted based on what dirtydeeds was saying (there's a good thread over on another tundra forum about them).
I was originally going to go with ebc yellow, again based on dirtydeeds recomendation, but when i was talking with Frozen Rotors on the phone they recomended Hawk Green Pads. I ended up going with their recomendation.

We towed our trailer a few hundred miles and very happy with the upgrade. Butter smooth braking and a noticable improvment in stopping power.

If you go the Frozen Rotor route, give them a call and ask them if they have the rotors in stock and ask for a promo code. When i did he gave me one that was enough to cover shipping.
