Hey Guys. I'm looking to get a new set of tires soon. Looking at 275/70/r18's to mount on stock TRD off-road wheels. I decided on this size because I want to keep the stock suspension for now (maybe 5100's on mid setting in the future) and I didn't want to take that big of a hit on MPG (I know I know).

The 2 tires I am considering are the Cooper ATS XLT or General Grabber ATX. The main thing I'm looking for is a quiet tire that does good on-road/highway driving in snow, ice, and rain but still has a more aggressive look over stock. I live in the lake effect snow belt of Western NY and we get about 100"-120" of snow each season with freezing temps 4-5 months out of the year. I do very little off-roading other than camping or driving to hiking trail heads. And as of right now I do not tow anything. Price doesn't really matter since they are both pretty close to each other.

I've done a lot of research and both seem to have nothing by great reviews. I've looked at other tires as well and a lot of people seem to recommend the more popular Duratracs, KO2s, Open Country at, wildpeak AT3w, among others. But as dumb as it sounds I just want something different than the rest of the crowd. Thanks!

The Grabber ATX would be very good for what you’re looking for.

I have purchased the general atx's and purchasing my second pair now. The first set last 60K+ miles. They did everything I asked of them. I had them set to 43psi in the rear and 39psi in the front. Rotated every oil change. Great tires

I dont know a lot about the cooper's but I am sure they are a solid choice. I vote 1 for the ATX's

Great to hear Shawn! What size did you do with? Do you do a lot of driving in the snow/ice? Pics?

I went with 275/70/R18 because it fits perfectly on stock wheels and suspension. I live in upstate ny so there was a lot of snowy/icy conditions. One knock to them is that they dont clean themselves out as well as other tires in snowy conditions. But I haven't had any real issues with them just when I was driving through fields with deep snow. Below is a picture of my 2018. I am getting them on my 2020 this week.Truck and Dog.jpg

I am on my second set of the grabber atxs - 275/70/18. I too live in a lake effect snow and mountainous area. Quiet on the highway, yet excellent in the snow and ice, I would highly recommend. I have never run the coopers, so I can't fairly critique them, but I have had the duratracs, ridge grapplers, a/t ko2, toyo open country at3s and the atx are my top pic for what conditions/expectations you are describing, which are exactly like mine. Oh and Discount Tire matched an online Walmart ad and I got the grabbers for $175/ea. Hope that helps.

Thanks!! I have the same truck but in Black. Exactly the size and look I'm going for with stock suspension/wheels. Are you getting the same size for your 2020? Would love to see pics when you get them on. Did you notice any drop in MPG from stock?

    Both are fantastic options!
My vote is for the generals because I like the design.

My experience with cooper are done.... I know many Others have had a different experience and view coopers as a viable option. When you have a manufacturer that doesn’t stand behind there product it’s over for me.
I spent more on balancing on two of the four tires than the tire cost. Two well respected tire shops in the area said that the tires couldn’t be balanced they were defective yet Cooper walked away taking no responsibility.
It was like I had Parkinson's my steering shook so bad.
The previous set the belts let go on two of the tires with low mileage. My truck hardly ever drives on anything but pavement. Again no owner ship from Cooper.

I recently was into tire shopping and didn’t have much of a option as what tires are available in 295/70/18”s.
Ended up with A set of wildpeak at3w so far great tire but to early to say expect there are very quite and ride ok.

So it wouldn’t be coopers if it was for myself. Grappler looks good!!

Yes same size and I will post pics they should be on Wednesday or Thursday. I did notice about a 1 to 1.5mpg drop. I kept track for awhile and averaged about 15.3mpg for the life of the tires.

I personally let my local mechanic pick my tires. I told him years ago I wanted to the KO2’s. He said and I quote “they aren’t what they used to be”. He suggested the ATX’s and they are awesome. I went back in last Friday to get a quote on the transmission cooler install and talk tires. He said he would get the ATXs or Wildpeaks.
